Consumer Camcorder VS Prosumer?

Asked by iwannamakemovies (233points) July 17th, 2010 from iPhone

Should I get a consumer camcorder (Canon HF200), DOF adapter, and 50mm lens; or a Prosumer camcorder (Canon HF S100) with no DOF adapter or extra lens?

It’s for sketch comedy and short comedy films. I want it to look as professional as possible.
There will be no still photography what so ever.

If the few extra hundred dollars are not a big issue. GO with the HF S100.

Honestly, both cameras will provide a similar end result. It is going to come down to how good a VIDEO (not film) you will be able to produce. Production value, not “toy” value, is what will shine.

Preparation, blocking shots, continuity, lighting and a good story. That is the ticket.

I can loan you an $80,000 camera. You can/will still produce garbage if you do not follow the above.
