What invention do you wish someone would come up with?

Asked by le_inferno (6194points) July 25th, 2010

I wish there was an invention that located things. Can’t remember where you put your keys? This invention will locate them! Lost your phone? No problem! That highlighter from 7th grade that you know is laying around somewhere? It will find it! Any other brilliant ideas from the collective?

A time machine. I’d be first in line to buy one.

Something to keep rain off eyeglasses.

Male birth control right now.

@superneil21 Seventy two GA’s on that one.

A way to make us work less, make more, and give us more leisure. Seems like all the technology that was supposed to make life easier for us, in a way has made life much more complicated, work-related, and cluttered. Lol.

Invisibility, the possibilities for fun & frolics are endless.

And holographic porn

The Replicator and the Zero Point Energy Generator. The world’s energy and resource problems would be solved immediately.

A bug-killing robot.

Human health protector robots. No matter what kind of life you would live, you’d be healthy.

KhiaKarma's avatar

A meal substitiute that had all the nutrients that you need in a day catered to personal needs and a “just for fun” stomach that you could eat whatever you want, benefit from the taste but not have to deal with the fat/sugar/or other unhealthy stuff. Would be disqusting to clean out the extra stomach though (maybe could use a disposable bag?)....and I have no idea where it would go…

A super translator so that women and men would always be able to communicate and understand what each means and needs in any situation of intense feeling or conflict. It would allow immediate and transparent understanding of and empathy for each other.

A time machine to allow us to travel forward and backward with no fear of creating harmful time paradoxes. It would come with the ability to reverse any changes we make in our lives that do not produce better outcomes. It would be the ultimate do-over for mistakes we made.

a exercise pill . So I never have to exercise again.

I wish they put trap doors in the kitchen floor so you just sweep all your dirt and stuff into it, so you don’t have to bend over to get it into a dustpan—and miss a bunch of it anyway.

I asked a similar question to this less than a month ago. I hardly got any responses lol. Every house would generate its own power. I am currently working on this idea right now. I have 2 small prototype alternators. Money has held me back a bit here. Maybe down the road when I get more money I will go further with this idea.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Jabe73 I’m thinking that a month ago people were still reeling from the addition of the “social” section (don’t know why….). They weren’t used to non-serious inquires.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

A teleportation machine. No more planes, cars, buses, etc. Set the dial, show necessary credentials, if need be, and “ta-da!”, you are there.

@Adirondackwannabe Have you tried RainX? It works on the car windshield…maybe we should try in on our glasses.
@ucme There was an article recently where an invisibility cloak has been developed and tested. If it isn’t already, it is supposedly to be available for sale soon, albeit at a very high price.
@Dutchess_III I think it exists.

NaturallyMe's avatar

A warming loo seat. It’s cold sitting on it in winter!

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@NaturallyMe They exist, at least in the U.S. And there needs to be an electrical outlet nearby. It wouldn’t work in my SO’s English house, as there isn’t an outlet in the bathroom. (Is that common?)

Jabe73's avatar

@Dutchess_III I’m not complaining here. I never thought to put the question in the “general” section. It was more of an “invention fantasy” type of question and I felt there were more important topics to put in the general section. There was 2 questions with serious topics I did put in the general section. No biggie. I gave this a GQ anyway.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@NaturallyMe You’re a woose! Go check your pms!

Rewgreen's avatar

How about a means of communication with far out galaxies. We could learn so much from talking with alien races, like how to build a microwave that doesn’t make your egg go rubbery.

@Pied_Pfeffer Yes it is common, but I’ve told you that before.

Jeruba's avatar

Instabath.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Housecleaning robot.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@Rewgreen Yes, Dearest…but I hold a bit of hope that if I ask it enough to others, it might not be true.

A broom that you could use with only one hand.
Also a rake that could be used one-handed.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

Also a machine that will allow me to go on a soulside journey to supress my transilvanian hunger in a hall with meat and mead while obeying the Kathaarian life code

Dutchess_III's avatar

A pill that you take three times a day which would supply all the nutrition you need.

Jeruba's avatar

@Dutchess_III, you don’t enjoy eating?

HungryGuy's avatar

@Dutchess_III – That would be a great invention! But it would also have to eliminate the hunger pangs, and even make people feel full all the time, otherwise the pill will have no benefit.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@HungryGuy Done! It’s perfected now! And it’s just $10 a day!

@Jeruba For the most part, no. I don’t. It’s a hassle more than anything. But there are times, few and far between when we go to a good restaurant and I enjoy it, and sometimes if I have something super-delicious here at the house I like it but other than that, I wish I didn’t have to..

Dr_Lawrence's avatar

@KhiaKarma Yes like the point of view gun but instantly works both ways so they can each see both viewpoints and respect them and deal with the issues collaboratively.

Jabe73's avatar

@Dutchess_III Screw that. To me eating is one of the most pleasant things in life to do. I enjoy cooking, trying new recipes and tasting food itself. Of the top 3 things I enjoy doing in life eating/cooking is one of them.

KhiaKarma's avatar

@Jabe73 that’s where the just-for-fun stomach comes in handy! ;)

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Jabe73 Well, you don’t HAVE to take a pill! It’s just for those who’d rather do it that way!

Jabe73's avatar

@KhiaKarma “Just for fun stomach” lol. If you read my post from a similar question that someone asked “what would you have a drug do if you could have it do anything you wanted”? The drug I came up with may be a better alternative. It was a drug that would speed up your metabolism to the point where you could eat whatever you wanted and not gain any weight without the side effects. Kind of like when I was a teen to my early twenties where I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a single pound.

@Dutchess_III Well I work too much to be too overweight. However I usually do not eat before I go to work nor do I bring my lunch so maybe I would have some use for your idea after all :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Jabe73 ? I didn’t make any comments about overweight…?

But since we’re on the subject, I read somewhere where one of the things normal weight people have in common is that they don’t eat breakfast, and they don’t eat by clock. Which is me. Except..I eat breakfast when I’m working. I try to pack most of my daily calories in at breakfast so I don’t have to mess with it too much the rest of the day. When I’m at home though, I’ll often not eat till noon or later.

I want a way to record the things I see/hear inside my head. I am constantly coming up with songs in my head or imagining these brilliant images but I am very lacking in the artistic department so I have no way of getting them out. For now its all just locked away in my brain.

Id also love to be able to record all the amazing stuff I see while on hallucinogens. :P

NaturallyMe's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer – oh, well, we don’t have ‘em! No, we don’t really have outlets in the bathrooms either. Maybe one could get a battery operated one. Hehe.

NaturallyMe's avatar

@Dutchess_III that pill is the worst invention ever!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

@NaturallyMe We could make them taste like chocolate!!

NaturallyMe's avatar

@Dutchess_III – well ok, maybe you’re on to something there. But those’d have to be pretty big pills!

Dutchess_III's avatar

FINE! They’ll be basketball sized pills that taste like chocolate!

happy123's avatar

time machine, flying cars:), umm and yupp thts it:D

HungryGuy's avatar

@Dutchess_III – That’s cheaper than eating food. Sounds like a plan!

mattbrowne's avatar

A space elevator.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@mattbrowne awwww mannnn i remember seeing pictures of that in my elementary science text books. And how they said they were working on it for the future and I just kept thinking mannnnn when i get older there will be a friggin space elevator…bitchin…. But alas still no elevator. Maybe someday.

HungryGuy's avatar

@mattbrowne – It had better have a loo (a bathroom).

mattbrowne's avatar

@uberbatman – When the construction is complete will you join me for a ride?

mattbrowne's avatar

@HungryGuy – Well, there might be rest areas every 100 km

HungryGuy's avatar

@mattbrowne – Well, okay, as long as I don’t have to don a space suit to use the loo…

El_Cadejo's avatar

@mattbrowne awwwwww hells yea :P

Instant travel like the StarTrek transporter, because most of our modes of long distance transportation are noisy, violent (bumpy), dangerous and expensive.
