Are the majority of long term users in everyone's fluther?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) August 8th, 2010

Well?
If you’ve been on fluther for a long time, do you think that all of the other long term users have you in their fluther? And vice versa?

Is your personal fluther a microcosm of fluther.com?

Oh, no, by no means. Every fluther is idiosyncratic.

long time users show more ideas that inspire others.

@jesienne well, I ask because over time we become friends here. At the very least we become familiar with one another. I see a lot of the same faces (avatars?) every day – so I can’t help but wonder.

@TheOnlyNeffie hehe I was thinking why it is not easier for long time user to make friends with short time user```````

I don’t think that it is hard, necessarily. I think it just happens naturally that when people see each other regularly and talk regularly, relationships grow out of that. And then, some people just click right off the bat.

This is a pretty friendly group, I believe. I have never had a negative experience on fluther. yet

There is a limit on how many jellies are allowed in any one fluther. It’s either 200 or 250, the number has been adjusted in the past. There’s no limit on how many fluthers you can be in.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land oh wow, I didn’t know that. Not that I’m concerned just yet, I think there are around 60 jellies in my fluther momentarily. I have a ways to go. :) Useful info though, thank you for sharing.

I’m pretty sure the answer is no. Everyone has their own preferences. I have noticed, though, that people who join at around the same time tend to gravitate towards each other in the beginning. So maybe most of the long-term members are in most of each other’s Fluthers?

Nope, I’m more partial to new users. Especially, young people who are trying to find their way.

No and no. Each fluther seems to be very different. Also, I do not believe everyone has only friends or like-minded jellies. Persons who are interesting are included too.

I really don’t think so. I know for that I add someone to my Fluther if they ask consistently great questions or provide consistently interesting, helpful and/or thought provoking answers. It doesn’t matter to me if they have been around two weeks or two years. I also think that at this point Fluther has gotten so big – with so many questions – some users simply go unnoticed because they rarely participate in threads with some other users. Wow I hope that last part made sense – kind of confusing.

It made sense to me, @SuperMouse. Sometimes I am really surprised to notice someone for the first time and see that they have 2 or 3 thousand points. That means they’ve been active on threads I never visited at all. It’s as if, sometime late in the evening, I suddenly realized that the party was going on in two other rooms besides the one I was in.

I’ll often add someone on the strength of a single fabulous post. I don’t care what else they’ve said, that one comment blew me away, and I don’t want to lose sight of them.

And every once in a while I’ll suddenly notice that someone I’ve admired for a long time isn’t in my fluther. I add them remedially.

I do housekeeping now and then, too, and remove a few, such as someone who sounded terrific but stayed only three days a year and a half ago.

Hardly. And I was just kidding.

A smart embedded SQL program could be used to determine this.
