How do I move up or down within the text I have written on my iPad?

Asked by JLeslie (65419points) August 18th, 2010

When I write an answer on fluther and want to go back to correct something, I know i can just tap on the screen by the word I need to fix, but if it is text that is now longer in the window where we write, I can’t figure out how to get up to previous text. On a regular computer I would use the arrows. Also, sometimes I need arrows to go left or right to correct a word when it is difficult to get the cursor right where I want it, especially since it seems apple still is against a delete button, only providing a backspace key from what I can tell.

Lastly, am I right that there is no percent symbol on the iPad? I can’t find it.

Thanks in advance!

I even had trouble editing my question. I have a lower case I in my explaination, which is incorrect. Ugh.

Assuming the iPad works the same way as the iPhone you can either:
* hold your finger on the screen until you see the magnifying glass appear, and then move it up to the top of the screen, and hold it there while the screen slowly scrolls
* simply place your finger on the screen and move it up or down

As for the % sign, again assuming the iPad is the same as the iPhone, click the 123 button to bring up the numeric version of the keyboard, and then click the #+= button (which is now where the 123 button had been) to bring up the rest of the symbols. The % is on the top row, 6th from the left.

hmm. Just tried Fluther on my iPhone. Apparently only the 1st method I listed above works for the text entry box. Hold your finger until the magnifying glass appears, and move it to the top or bottom of the text entry box. Hold it there while the screen veeeerrrrryyyyy slllloooowwwwlllly scrolls.

One more question for my iPad. Is there a way to go to the bottom of a long page quickly?

@JLeslie Not that I know of but you can go to the top of a page quickly by tapping the bar at the top where it shows the time and signal strength.
