Got any good quinoa recipes?

Asked by zen_ (6281points) September 29th, 2010

It’s here, it’s queer. I tried making it like rice – it needs help.

Here’s an interesting NYTimes article

I love quinoa and have made it quite often. There are some recipes here. I have also tried out some of these recipes, and they turn out pretty good.
Good luck :))

Here is a quinoa pilaf.

Quinoa sushi roll. I like to jazz things up a bit (bam!) so I would add to the quinoa a squirt of lime, a few shakes of chili and some wasabi.

I generally cook it with a vegetable broth and add lots of seasonings (ginger and quinoa go well) and stir-fried vegetables. It works very well with baked pilafs too.

Here’s an intersting recipe for Curried Quinoa Salad with Mango that I found on Allrecipes.com. I havent’ tried it yet, but it sounded delicious. You can just substitue the chicken broth for vegetable broth if you want it to be vegetarian (I would). Here’s the link: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Curried-Quinoa-Salad-with-Mango/Detail.aspx

Also, you can use quinoa instead of bulger wheat for a different take on tabouleh, my cousin made some for our last potluck and it was delicious. She also added feta and mint to the tabouleh.

I plan to make some vegetarian chili, once the weather cools off, and I think I will try putting quinoa in it. I think that would make a very nice hearty fall meal don’t you?

I think quinoa would also pair well with butternut squash soup. Just plop some cooked quinoa into the soup at the last minute before serving.

I use it as a substitute for rice when I make Coconut Milk Curry Veggies and Tofu. Make the quinoa. Stir-fry the veggies of choice and tofu. For the sauce, simmer 1 can of coconut milk, Thai curry powder of choice, garlic, soy sauce and Sriracha. pour the sauce into the pan with the veggies and simmer so a bit longer. Put some quinoa onto your plate and pour sauce on top. yum!

@Kardamom, I agree that quinoa would pair really well with butternut squash and other soups!

My experience with quinoa is that it tastes better if you rinse it vigorously before boiling. This tends to remove the outer husk, which might have a slightly bitter taste.

There is a recipe on Allrecipies for a Kale, Quinoa, and Avacado Salad. It is one of our favorites. Unfortunately, I can’t provide a link right now, but it is easy to find on the website.
