Are there free anti-virus downloads that will not only detect but fix the problem?

Asked by valdasta (2146points) October 5th, 2010

I know there are many adds on the internet for free anti-virus downloads, but I am sure that many of these probably just scan, but not fix the problem unless you subscribe. That is why I am coming to you, my fellow jellies. I have heard that I should use more than one, so, it’s O.K. to make several suggestions.

malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org) is a great program for removing such items. only thing is that the free version only detects viruses and spyware when you call upon it to scan. some other free programs that do run in the background at all times are Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials.

I have had pretty good luck with AVG.com and CCleaner combo. What ever you do backup your data and have a set of recovery discs. I have just started using Dropbox as a free online data warehouse you can access your data from any computer and also use it to share files with anyone too!

The free products I can recommend are:
Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)
AVG
Avira
Malwarebytes Antimalware

I use the MSE today, but AVG and Avira are effective, too.

Malwarebytes Antimalware catches different problems, and the free version does not run in the background like the other programs. I run that as well as one of the other programs above.
