Who is looking forward to the royal wedding?

Asked by BeccaBoo (2725points) April 18th, 2011

Tell me your opinions on what you think of our royals, and what you think of William especially? What do you think Kate will do for the modern Great Britain?

I’m going to put this as politely & succinctly as I can. I couldn’t care less!!
I wouldn’t kick Kate out of bed though ;¬}

Honestly? I’m just looking forward to all the Pimm’s I’ll be drinking at the knees-up near me that day. You don’t get Pimm’s too often in NYC.

Barely a blip on my radar screen.

Couldn’t give a tinker’s curse

I could care less.

Who is looking forward to hearing why others are interested in the wedding that have no connection to it?

BeccaBoo's avatar

Hmmmm so you American’s don’t love us Brit’s that much then ;-)

BeccaBoo's avatar

@aprilsimnel mmmm pimms how delicious, not had it in a while, we usually have it in the summer, but as the weather here has been glorious, think i may also break open a bottle in our street party :-)

shego's avatar

Wow, I haven’t seen or heard about them in a while. I thought they already got married. Oops, so I guess that means I don’t care. It doesn’t directly involve me. I guess anything to do with royalty, or celebrities, I just don’t care.

BeccaBoo's avatar

Can’t believe this. being a patriotic Brit, it’s massive over here. OK forget that one then.

Blackberry's avatar

@BeccaBoo I love brits, but I’m just wondering why the wedding of two people (not even the lives, just the wedding and marriage) is so important to so many people that have nothing to do with it.

shego's avatar

I agree with @Blackberry
I guess it would be like you not understanding our patriotism on the 4th of July.

BeccaBoo's avatar

@Blackberry because it’s our royals, and its a wedding and it’s the fairytale. And believe you me, if you came here at the moment, you’d feel like you were part of it, its EVERYWHERE, so we just jump on and enjoy the celebration. Also a lot of us feel its the happy ending to a sad loss of Diana. Prince William is adored here, like the nation’s son.

@shego I get that.

Can’t wait to see how drunk Harry gets. I’ve got money wagered on it!

Being Australian, and not an old lady, my interest in the wedding is pretty minimal, so I’m with you “Who cares” people.
But
They estimate that 3 billion people will tune in. That’s a lot of people focused on one thing at one time – and personally I’d prefer everyone to be focusing on this one trivial, positive thing than the latest terrifying natural disaster. It’ll make a nice change for once. People might feel a bit better about their day and do more nice things for each other (if only for a few hours.) Animated birds and rabbits might cavort around us and help us clean our houses and shit. So a little less “bah,” and a little more “tra-la-la,” thanks.
Granted, most people will only be watching to see how puffy her sleeves are… or if Harry will be attending in his nazi costume, but still!

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Logistically, it’s a problem to catch it live as the wedding takes place on a Friday, and the service doesn’t officially start until 11:00 GMT. This means that people in other countries could potentially be at work or still sound asleep.

William seems like a nice guy, and Kate seems to be a very nice young lady. She appears to be doing better at handling the press than Princess Diana did. She’d be wise to take a leaf out of Diana’s book by devoting her time and energy to noble causes that aid others. As for what either of them will do…who knows? Has there been anything published about their plans?

Another question for you: Is there any truth to the speculation that Prince Charles will pass on the role of King and hand it directly to his son when the time comes?

mrentropy's avatar

I remember (barely, granted) the Prince Charles and Diana wedding being a pretty big deal over here. At least big enough that a thirteen year old would remember it. I’m surprised that this one isn’t getting much attention.

Of course, I don’t have TV anymore, don’t read the newspaper, don’t listen to the radio… For all I know I guess it could be big news these days.

And, personally speaking, I don’t really care all that much. But good luck to ‘em.

I wouldn’t miss it. I love weddings, want to see her dress and the groom is gorgeous. Now if I could just watch the reception…...lol

Berserker's avatar

I didn’t even know this was happening…but if I lived in England, and people celebrate it and stuff, sounds like fun. I live in Canada, and I used to love Canada Day…ecxept now I live in a province where people don’t celebrate it. Losers. It’s moving day instead.
But eh, back on topic, yeah I really don’t care, but it might be different if I lived there. Will there be activities and stuff during the big day?

faye's avatar

@Symbeline I think they are making a trip to Canada.

Berserker's avatar

Yeah, English royalty has made trips here before, but they’re not always very well recieved. :/ Not according to radio stations like Power 97 anyways…

jonsblond's avatar

@mrentropy It’s big news here in the states. Just about every news organization has been talking about it for at least a month. (actually, since the engagement) The topic now is the potential for some type of terrorist activity that day since there will be such a large audience watching. But then they say that about anything with a large audience.

rooeytoo's avatar

Since I live in one of the colonies, it is on the news a lot! And they are a pretty young couple so it is interesting to watch the goings on.

faye's avatar

@rooeytoo One of the colonies- I love it, me too, Canada. The news here is mostly our stupid election, but the wedding is in there a lot.

I admit to being an Anglophile. I actually got up before dawn to watch Will’s parents get married. Not this time. Too old for that kind of early wake up call. Plus now, you can just record it or watch the highlights or rent the video.

But I have always been a fan of the history of the British monarchy. It’s just fasinating to me. I’ve read all sorts of biographies aout Elizabeth the first, Queen Victorian, Edward and Mrs. Simpson and one really amazing book about all of the Queens of England since the first one. etc. This is just the continuation of that.

Hopefully they will take William’s mother’s ideas about charity and service to heart and continue with her tradition.

I love to watch all of the ceremonious stuff too. I’ve been to Westminster Abbey, so it will be neat to see them get married there. Just not at 3 o’clock in the morning.

downtide's avatar

I have the day off work because it’s been made a public holiday. I volunteered to work because I don’t really care about watching it, but they told me that they already had plenty of volunteers (who also don’t really care either) and they didn’t need another. I guess I’ll be doing something that involves not turning on the telly.

ucme's avatar

@BeccaBoo I’m English & I still don’t care.

basstrom188's avatar

A few more thoughts
Maybe he will turn into a frog when she kisses him.
Let’s have Michael Fish to do the weather, warm and sunny may just turn into a hurricane. We can only hope. The’re only inbred, sponging deadbeats after all.

filmfann's avatar

I am amazed at the attention this is getting. I have NO interest in the Royal Wedding.
I honestly couldn’t care less about this.

ucme's avatar

Maybe the taliban are here’s hoping I mean, shudder to think! ~

BeccaBoo's avatar

Well I am. And only because i can’t wait to see her dress and her side of the family (mum and dad are the posh the rest are proper pikeys) way out of their depth mixing with the royals. Think its going to be interesting. Plus there is Harry, shame they are not covering the reception.

rooeytoo's avatar

I am with you @BeccaBoo – it is a peek into a world that most never get to see. And I love Harry, he is so damned cute and cheeky!

downtide's avatar

Speaking of Prince Harry… take a look at this photo . The one on the right is Harry. The one on the left is James Hewitt, who allegedly had an affair with Princess Diana at around the right time. Spot the family resemblance?

Kardamom's avatar

@downtide I always thought that too, and the timing was correct. I wonder if they actually did any DNA testing on Harry. I doubt it, because they still need him to be Charle’s son, so as not to cause more controversy, and in the case of a accident, they would still need him to be the next in line to the throne. I’m sure plenty of other royals, that were considered legitimate, back in the old days, weren’t. And sadly, plenty of illegitimate children were never considered at all.

BeccaBoo's avatar

He definitely is a real mix of Diana and James huh!! You gotta feel for the kid though, he is going to be exposed to all this stuff, only gonna mess his head up. No wonder he is a bit of a rebel. Oh who knows, Prince Charles was never one to conform to the norm i mean look Diana or Camilla duh!!!!

downtide's avatar

I don’t think they would ever dare do a paternity test on Harry. And yes there has been quite a history of illegitimate offspring in the royal family.

atomicmonkey's avatar

I am no longer looking forward to the Royal Wedding.
