Your preference: aluminum or glass bottle?

Asked by robmandu (21331points) June 8th, 2011

For discussion’s sake, let’s assume that all of the world’s beers are available to you in either glass or aluminum bottles.

Which do you prefer and why?

Any and all reasons welcome… which is best in a bar fight? which has the least likelihood for sticking to your tongue? which tastes better on the inside? on the outside?

For me it’s glass all the way. I find that aluminum has a slight metal taste associated with it. Also, glass is heavier in bottle form and definitely better for a bar fight.

I’d prefer glass since I love the tinkling noise it makes when they bump. It’s a pretty sound to hear. My beer belly jiggles with delight.

Glass. Beer out of cans is for bums.

I don’t like that aluminum taste. Bottles for me. Or glasses, if available.

Glass. It adds nothing to the taste.

If at all possible, I’ll take it in a pint glass.

Failing that, glass bottle. I don’t like alcohol and metal combined. Also, I feel like I drink too fast and can’t taste it properly if I’m drinking out of a can or bottle. Same with soda, for that matter.

Glass, it seems classier and I swear sometimes I can taste the aluminum in beer in cans.

I prefer the can. You can peg someone across the bar during the fight and there’s less likelihood of spillage. Then open can, pour in glass.

I prefer glass, until I have to return them for deposit. A trash can full of glass bottles weighs a ton.

If at all possible, beer should be served in a pint glass, preferably having come direct from a barrel, but failing that from a glass bottle.

This type of glass is the best in a fight – it’s chunky, has a wide offensive edge once smashed and a handle which gives superior grip once the blood and mucous start flowing and allows for stabbing and slashing movements with equal utility.

Aluminum is reportedly a neurotoxin. So glass.

I prefer drinking beer out of glass, be it straight from the bottle or contents poured from a can into a glass.

Glass all the way….aluminum second….plastic Never! I know what goes into those plastics and never never never!

How about transparent aluminium?

SpatzieLover's avatar

Glass: It stays colder longer, tastes better & I like drinking out of a bottle vs a can.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@ragingloli it’s incredibly expensive to make, requires the use of exotic lasers and doesn’t last very long.

Just fyi… aluminum cans and aluminum bottles have a plastic liner specifically to prevent metal turbidity… nasty metal taste in beer.

I would presume then that if you’re tasting aluminum in your beer, it’s probably just from where your mouth is touching bare metal. That should also mean there’s little chance of aluminum contaminating your beer in the container. You’ve just got to worry about the plastic in that case.

I would always choose glass

Glass bottle for the win! That’s for sure.

Glass. It’s the clear choice.

As long as it gets my ass drunk I don’t really give two shits lol.

Glass. Cans remind me of the boys on Langdon Street at uni with their Buds and their sub-moronic Animal House antics.

Glass. You can’t get the fancy of beer in glass mugs or bottles with a scrap of aluminium.
