Oldies but goodies do you still talk to any of your childhood friends?

Asked by whitetigress (3129points) November 3rd, 2011

If you don’t do you wish you had? If you do what do you do together now? Have you considered reconnecting through FaceBook? Why or why not?

I’ve known my best friend for 16 years. I was 5 when we met and we still hang out a lot.
I’ve known my best female friend for 10 years. We do everything together now after a 5 year hiatus of contact.

Yes I talk to them. I don’t need lamebook to take contact with them.

I reconnected with many childhood/neighborhood friends through Facebook. I have also found second cousins I never knew existed. Some people don’t like that sort of thing, but I love it.

I reconnected with a bunch from elementary school, high school, and college on Facebook a few years ago. It was great at first (catching up and all), but then you start to realize that some had grown into toxic, rhetoric-spewing types {unfriend}. Others we perfectly nice, but wanted to only talk about sports, or getting drunk {unfriend}. Then, as time went on, the rest (myself included) were simply too busy to communicate or even show up on Facebook at all {unfriend}. So while it was a nice flirtation with the past, it never grew legs beyond that.

In real life, my “oldest” friendships are only about ten years old.

My wife, on the other hand, still actively hangs around with girls she went to kindergarten with.

@cprevite, very well put. I know what you mean. I have “unfriended” some who turned out to be real assholes. Some you feel sorry for, some have had hard lives but most I’m happy to have back in my life. You sound like a great father and husband. Congrats!

I still talk to my best childhood friend I have known for 43 years and my college roommate and I go out for beers once a month.

Very occasionally. I have one of those FriendsReunited accounts. I think one of them is cranky with me because I forgot her birthday though. It was a significant birthday but I am 12,000 miles away and it wasn’t at the forefront of my mind! I haven’t heard from her since though. Must drop her a line!

Yes, I’m still very good friends with some childhood friends. We talk a few times a week and catch up for a chat a fair bit.

A couple of them, though our journeys separated us by big gulps of land mass. It has been wonderful to be back in touch. Kind of brings a new continuity to my life. Their lives took different paths than expected also as many do, and we are all like most jellies here, trying to live purposeful lives.

I talk to my childhood best friend each and every day…..my wife.

We unknowingly played in the dirt together when she was five years old and I was seven.

We only discovered this after we were married and at the wedding reception.

Some marriages are just meant to be.

I have a facebook for my family but never go there. Seems all they do is farm. I lost all ties with friends when I moved away years ago. The few reconnects I have attempted didn’t go well for me. One is now a drunken pervert lol ummm… no thanks, we don’t need to be friends again.

Nah, they just used to act like kids… way to grown up for all that.

I am in contact (some only via Facebook) with a lot of my primary and secondary school friends. The person I have been in contact for the longest is a girl called Rosie who I have been friends with since I was 4 years old (I’m 25 years old now).

A couple of years ago, I created a Facebook group for our highschool graduating class. We now have over a third of our graduating class in it. Our 30 year reunion took place in August, and the classmates were more connected at the celebration due to staying in touch via Facebook.

I am best friends with one person, I have known her since I was about 3 and she was about 5. Our families are all friends with each other, and so we have always been in touch.

Other than that, thanks to Facebook, I have gotten back in touch with a bunch but not best friends or anything.
