Can you recommend a good documentary?

Asked by Adagio (14059points) October 8th, 2013

I’ve just watched Ai Wei Wei: Never sorry , an excellent documentary about China’s most well-known artist and political dissident/activist, I recommend it.

Have you seen a documentary worth mentioning recently?

Murderball.

It’s about the guys who compete on the wheelchair rugby Olympic team. Very interesting about what life is like for these young men who are paralyzed. I think every high school student should see it and great for adults too.

If you’re open to something that isn’t the least bit educational or political, there’s American Movie and The King of Kong.

The Secret Life of Dogs is a wonderful documentary about how dogs came to be the way they are, with regards to their natural instincts and how domestication plays into the puzzle. If you love dogs, you will love this.

Searching for Sugar Man. Two South Africans set out to discover what happened to their unlikely musical hero, the mysterious ‘70s rock ‘n’ roller, Rodriguez. Fascinating!

A Boy’s Life is hard to find but well worth the effort.

@tom_g . . . American Movie is a personal favorite.

@Pachyderm_In_The_Room Searching for Sugar Man is a fabulous film. In NZ I was listening to Rodrigues’ album Cold Fact in 1973, I was lucky enough to have a friend whose somewhat older brother had an extensive and eclectic record collection, I got to listen to things none of my peers had even heard of, I count it as one of the greatest privileges of my teenage.

Sound and Fury was a terrific documentary about deaf culture and issues around cochlear implants.
