What's a good INEXPENSIVE gift from a 17 year old boy to a 18 year old boy for his birthday?

Asked by running4ever5 (118points) July 31st, 2009

I don’t want it to be too expensive but not from the dollar store. Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks so much. I know gift cards are great but they can be pricy.

Video games are not inexpensive.

A game that isn’t brand new is usually ~$30, and most PC games are around there too. $30 or less doesn’t seem that expensive, to me, but maybe my view of expensive is different than yours.

Right now Game Stop/EB Games is selling used games for 50% off. That gets some of them down as low as $2.00

If the guy likes sports get him a ball or a hat or a t-shirt used in that kind of sport.

Give him a $10 gift card to someplace he likes, such as iTunes, Best Buy, WalMart.

If you know what band or bands he likes get him a bumper sticker for that band, or a t-shirt.

If he likes cologne or after shave, you can give him a bottle of that.

If he drinks a particular soda or likes coffee, get him a mug or a glass with the brand name on it (suggestion: Walgreens and CVS have a lot of this sort of stuff).

If he is into computers, give him a cheap thumb drive – I’ve found them for as little as $5.

At WalMart you can get ear-buds for as little as 99 cents, or you can get a pack of read-write cds or DVDs in cool colors for less than $10.

I agree with giving him Video Games. Maybe clothes? Kids these days love the Hollister and Abercrombie.

Or if you still can’t find the right present, i’m sure he’d be happy with a great big hug!

How much do you want to spend? A &15.00 gift card seems not so bad.

The only way to get inexpensive clothes is to go to the thrift shop closest to the best neighborhood in town and see what they have. Our local high-rent Goodwill often has name brand shirts still with the tags in place for $4.00.

Otherwise, have you seen what Abercrombie charges for shirts? Hollister is about half what Abercrombie runs, but it is still pricey.

@Darwin Yes I agree, I think Abercrombie is disgusting (and really racist too) and would rather shop at Holt Renfrew. Abercrombies clothes also fall apart very quickly. Sooo.. forget what I said earlier about Abercrombie

Gift certificate to a CD or DVD store?

I’d recommend a subscription to www.gamefly.com It is like netflix for video games. I’m sure he can find something there that he would like to play.

You can always get him a gift card to AMC or Edward Cinemas.
