Is Lady Gaga really a hermaphrodite?

Asked by majorrich (14741points) March 4th, 2010

My son told me she is a hermaphrodite this evening. I can’t believe it, She is a very pretty girl. But, Suppose she was packing two active weapons, and had way way way too many beer, and by a freak accident managed to impregnate herself because of the proximity of the parts.

1) would it be human cloning?
2) would it be legal?
3) would it affect her voice in a way to ruin her career.
4) can it be repaired?
5) Is She really a a natural hermaphrodite, or a surgical work in progress?

You’ve thought about this a lot?
I’m going to say that if she does have a bulge, she’s stuffing for controversy.
She does that sort of thing.

LADY GAGA IS A FEMALE. BORN A FEMALE. ALWAYS WAS A FEMALE. ALWAYS WILL BE A FEMALE. ADGDFLHGJGDHGDFF

Edit: sorry. I like her. :l

ChaosCross's avatar

I doubt it, BUT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IN OUR SCIENTIFIC UNIVERSE.

These are all very interesting questions, but I think this is just another one of those internet rumors.

However, if you want to learn more about hermaphroditism, Jeffrey Eugenides wrote a fantastic novel a few years ago called “Middlesex” that I would absolutely recommend.

OperativeQ's avatar

No, but she isn’t very pretty. I can say that, at least.

keobooks's avatar

She’s female, but she does possess male genitalia. She’s got several that’s she’s sewing together to make a new hat.

DeanV's avatar

No more than you and I.

So, maybe, but probably not.

lillycoyote's avatar

I have no idea whatsoever, but I am pretty sure she’s all woman or whatever, and whether or not it is illegal would depend on the laws of the state in which the event occurred, I would imagine, though I’ve never heard of a law that either protects or prohibits sexual activity between consenting genitalia.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

First of all, intersex people that have both male and female genital tissues can not impregnate themselves because they will never have both reproductive systems that are functional – therefore all your other questions make no sense. And what do you mean by a ‘work in progress’? As to whether or not Lady Gaga is intersex ( I do use the word ‘hermaphrodite’ as it is considered offensive within the intersex community that I am involved in) ...well that is irrelevant isn’t and we’ll never know.

Awesome question! Sorry to burst your bubble but pseudo-hermaphrodites are born sterile. Cannot procreate. (a hermaphrodite would in theory have both sets of functioning organs and the ability to procreate, which is why since this is not a medical possibility they are referred to as pseudo).

P.S. I find Lady Gaga extremely annoying, and thoroughly unattractive Also, her music blows.

talljasperman's avatar

what is your son basing this on?

DeanV's avatar

@Dr_C You’re not a fan of Rad Bromance?

Captain_Fantasy's avatar

I’m doing some math here and I’ve concluded her man parts would have to be very flexible while aroused for this to happen.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Dr_C exactly.. another reason why calling any human a hermaphrodite is incorrect – it makes no biological sense

Berserker's avatar

Someone born with both male and female genitals usually only have one set that works properly, so impregnating oneself is very unlikely.

Also she’s a girl.

Without makeup she looks like an old leather purse, but she’s female.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Symbeline lol
to the OP: and it’s genitalia.

Berserker's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I was just gonna say shlong and snatch, but yea.

This kind of question comes up once in a while. First Lady Gaga is unambiguously female. That out of the way, true hermaphroditism is so rare as to be virtually unknown. There is such a thing as gender ambiguity, but I don’t believe there has ever been a case in history of one person having a fully developed and functional penis and vagina. It’s a myth.

Quite rarely one individual will have both ovarian and testicular tissue. That’s about as far as it goes, and that is the condition called Hermaphroditism. It is not to be confused with ambiguous genitals.

Now watch a whole bunch of people get it all wrong, right after having read this post.

majorrich's avatar

I was bypassing the sterility issue. because I didn’t know about that part. Suppose by freak accident and for simplicity sake they are both functional.

Work in progress is when she is in the progress of adding or removing equipment to become a single sex person (Female losing Male parts. like we all assumed in the first place)

escapedone7's avatar

@dpworkin How would one classify a person with chromosomal anomalies? For example I read once that although most people are born with either xx or xy chromosomes, there are some born with xxy etc.

meagan's avatar

She is not!!!

keobooks's avatar

XXY males are not hermaphrodites. They have klinefelter’s syndrome.

PacificRimjob's avatar

There’s enough speculation for me to assume it’s Lord GaGa.

keobooks's avatar

Nah, she’s got the same “disorder” Celene Dion has—she just looks like a drag queen.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

Is this question a joke?

aprilsimnel's avatar

There are photos of her recent performance in London, which I will not link here, that show her to be apparently female. I don’t know if she wore the costume she wore in hopes of proving it, but there was a bit of a malfunction and some paparazzi caught it.

ekans's avatar

I think that she put that rumor to rest when she wore this revealing outfit

escapedone7's avatar

This raises another question in my mind. What defines our gender?? Is it our genitalia, our chromosomes, or something psychological like gender identity?

I have no doubt GaGa is all lady btw. I’ve never met a hermaphrodite but have met people who are transgendered, who are sensitive about gender stuff.

DominicX's avatar

Lady Gaga should give Justin Bieber her balls.

OperativeQ's avatar

@ekans What’s funny is that looks exactly like Marilyn Manson.

PhillyCheese's avatar

Lady Gaga is female.

There was a video performance showing that she had both male and female reproductive organs. However it was stated that it was not genitals, but some sort of tampon string.

This rumor was probably started by a jealous girlfriend of a guy who found lady gaga attractive lol

ranwulf's avatar

Stupid topic.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

I’ve never understood why people keep continually asking this question about someone who seems to always walk around in underwear or less. You can see everything in photo after photo, and there’s nothing there to see.

Roby's avatar

I think that she is a female verson of Tiny Tim

breedmitch's avatar

You suggest that she could somehow impregnate herself? And you have a son? What kind of adult are you?

DarkScribe's avatar

This whole issue started after some “private parts” fell out during a photo shoot here in Australia. In interviews afterwards she admitted to having a penis but said that she regards herself as a female. (It’s on video – Google for it.)

autumn43's avatar

I happen to like Lady Gaga for the rock opera-type of performances that she puts on. There’s a talent there that not many younger singers possess, IMHO. I was driving along a highway in CT, probably going on two hours, and talking with my Mom (she’s 76) and out of the blue she says “So, did you know that Lady Gaga likes boys and girls?” LOL! I a) didn’t know, b) wouldn’t care, and c) found it to be hilarious that my MOM knew about this. (I guess she told Barbara Walters or something).

Anyway, Lady Gaga, whatever her genitalia/gender/preference may be, has managed to span the ages of interest in certain things. More power to her. My mother, BTW, was not happy that LG couldn’t make up her mind what she wanted.

majorrich's avatar

I doesn’t have to be about Lady Gaga in particular. My interest is in Biology in General. I could be a bat for example. She happened to be the trigger to the question. So, suppose we had a fish that laid its own eggs and then fertilized same. Same question, no name. Does that make it more interesting and paletable? Is it a philosophical question?

Dr_C's avatar

@majorrich it might be more palatable but it changes the scope ofthe question. SInce this phenomenon is not a possibility in a human subject. There are however certain reptiles and amphibians with the ability to change sex while in a single sex environment in order to reproduce.

KatawaGrey's avatar

Why does everyone seem to be so defensive about Lady GaGa’s parts? She would still be the same person if she had a penis or if she didn’t. Would anyone who is “defending” her really like her less if they found out definitively that she had both male and female organs?

Dr_C's avatar

@KatawaGrey My opinion of her has nothing to do with her sexual organs…. my problem is with her outfits and music.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@Dr_C: I was referring more to posts like @rangerr‘s who was so vehement about Lady GaGa being female.

CMaz's avatar

I don’t see “defensive”. I see curiosity.

We went through this when Boy George showed up.

jfos's avatar

1) It doesn’t matter.

2) I think only someone who saw her naked would know for sure. The chances of that are very small, unless you’re packing like I’m packing.

3) @OP, I am not intersex, but I still think that the way you use “repair” is not only insensitive, but misguided.

dee1313's avatar

@OperativeQ I was thinking the exact same thing.
