What music would you prescribe for someone who's really down?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) April 7th, 2010

To know me is to realize I f*** up a lot. Well I went and did it again and lost someone I valued. I’m looking for some tune ideas that will pick me up a little. Any thoughts?

I like powerful, somewhat angry music when I’m feeling blue. My favourite thing to blast is Danzig’s first album, while driving, windows down, screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs.

Sorry, This was a little whiny selfserving crap, but now that its out there lets just have fun with it.

Sublime always did the trick for me.

BANDARI
When you feel blue, you can listen to the BANDARI.Their music is quiet and ethereal. This time you need to clam down and be equanimity

this is not a song but it always puts me in a good mood.

as for some songs, here are a couple:

not sure if that helps, i normally listen to heavy metal when pissed off. but i thought that will not help.

When I’m feeling down I find downbeat music lifts my mood…. bands like Interpol, White Lies, The Editors.

Simple Plan. Some of their songs are kinda depressing but they do have alot of happy go lucky, you can’t bring me down kind of songs.

Rap music, never fails. If that dont get you out of the dumps nothing will.

Upbeat, melodic music, with a positive message——ABBA, for instance——

@CodePinko Hey, I like Agnetha (the blond one), that’s all! Sigh. Lol.

Rammstein is upbeat with a positive message…

No one can doubt ABBA has a likable sound and image. Energetic and positive. And very melodic.

ABBA? Are you shitting me? You may as well put the gun in my mouth and help me pull the trigger. As long as you poke out both of my eardrums first.

Fleet Foxes—Mykonos
Shins—Wincing the Night Away
Rossini—William Tell Overture (especially that!)
Pachelbel—Canon in D (sometimes you have to revel in feeling blue)
Mason Williams—Classical Gas (for any mood at all, really)

For god’s sake whatever you do don’t let him near Bon Iver’s ”Wisconsin”. It’s a great, moody, haunting song… but sort of downbeat. I’m going to listen to it again right now, so if you see the tone of subsequent quips change soon, you’ll know why.

@CodePinko I wish I was able to understand the message. XD

I like Jack’s Mannequin’s album The Glass Passenger when I feel down. There’s songs about perseverance and such that help me get back up again.
