Did you start with a jelly avatar, and if so how long did you keep it before you changed it?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) August 19th, 2010

I have notice many people starting off their account with jelly avatars but down the road change to the avatar of their desire. Did you start off with a jelly avatar and if so how long was it, days, hours, etc, before you changed it? And if you did not start off with a jelly like I did why didn’t you?

I started out with one. I didn’t see the point of changing it until I got settled in a bit more and got a feel for the site. I changed it to this one about 2 or 3 weeks after being here (after being told I should change it by someone in chat one day). I really wasn’t all that worried about it. I don’t know if I’ll ever change it from this one, but I do have another one uploaded if I decide to switch it (I was debating between the two so I uploaded both of them).

Everyone starts out with one, I believe.

I changed mine almost immediately. I don’t like having a stock avatar on any site.

This was the first time I was on a website where I had an avatar option so I just left it for about a month before switching to my own avatar.

I didn’t because I had already been on Q&A sites before and was used to posting pictures of me as my avatar. When I first joined wis.dm, I used cartoon characters and other pictures as my avatar for a few months because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to post my picture. Once I tried it out and got used to it, it’s become a habit.

No i uploaded an image straight away. Like others i have used some other sites in the past and always want to be a little different from the norm.

Same here. As soon as I found the profile setting, one was uploaded.

Mine lasted 30 seconds before I got my trusted yellow Camaro up and running.

Nope, started with the dog cuz he’s better looking than the jelly ones. Although, I must say, there are some pretty handsome invertebrate choices offered!

I started with a jelly and changed it, I think, within a week once I got settled in.

The default whatever jelly at first – then Ryan and a couple of others slowly helped me get my legs, so to speak. I was clueless; I couldn’t even emphasize.

Now, how do I get rid of Picard again?

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@zenele Now, how do I get rid of Picard again? By channelling James T. Kirk ;-)

I changed mine the same day I signed up.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

I changed mine about 3 minutes after I signed up. I use my avatar to locate my comments on tons of sites, without it, it’s much slower.

mangeons's avatar

I changed mine pretty much right when I joined, and I’ve changed it several times since then.

I think I’m going to stick with this one for awhile though, it’s pretty and seems like a crowd favorite. ;)

No jellyfish avatar for me, never, ever.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I started with one and kept it for a few days. I figured I would simply ask a question and get out. Why bother changing it? After about a week, I was officially stuck in the jelly ooze so I uploaded another one.

@worriedguy They say just when you think you are out, they pull you back in. There is only 2 ways out of the fluther; in an orange jump suit or with a toe tag. Hahahahahahaha

downtide's avatar

I never use the default avatar on any site, I always change it (if I can) as soon as possible after joining.

I started off life as yellow jellyfish which was horrible but fortunately after about two weeks I metamorphosed into a shining yellow star.
