Which shoes do you recommend?

Asked by mayratapia_ (371points) November 1st, 2010 from iPhone

My mom needs some new work shoes, she works indoors in a factory. She always complains about how cold her shoes are, so I would like to know which shoes you would recommend that are warm, but are not boots. Thank you.

sounds like she needs wool socks! But good referee style medium top black sneakers should work with good socks.

These are a little spendy, but they will keep her feet warm if anything does. She will probably want at least 2 pair so she can swap them out and let them rest every other day.

I agree about the socks. Get a foam insole shoe liner and some silk sock liners. Silk is worth the money as it is thin and will wick away the moisture that is probably part of the problem.

I would suggest a pair of lined Crocs. They’re incredibly warm and comfortable, good for people who are on their feet all day and the soles are thick enough to provide some insulation from the floor which is probably where a lot of the cold is coming from. They’re easy to slip on and off and you can easily remove the linings to wash them which nice. But… getting the lining back into the shoe? Not quite so easy. Just something to consider.

Since she is in a factory can she wear sneakers? I agree with the socks also. Warm socks that come up to her knees. Keeping your lower leg warm helps a lot, and most trouser pant legs allow for some cool air to touch your legs. When I lived up north I sometimes doubled up on socks with a thin pair next to my feet, and a thick pair on top.

Thor-Lo socks are great – lots of padding and they come in different weights/thicknesses, so she can pick whichever will work best in her shoe and for her circumstances.

I agree about sock liners; these are my favorites.
