Who has some dip recipes they'd like to share?

Asked by jca (36062points) January 31st, 2011

At work we were talking about dips. Clam dip, spinach dip, all kinds of dip.

Who has some slammin’ dip recipes they’d like to share? And please include what you eat it with, chips, crackers, what?

Mango bean dip
Ingredients:
Serves: 20–30,
Yield:
5–6 cups
• 1 red onion, chopped
• 1 red pepper, chopped
• 1 oranges or 1 yellow pepper, chopped
• 1 jalapeno pepper, minced
• 4 cloves garlic, crushed
• 2 limes, juice only
• 1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
• 2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, drained (unsalted or low sodium, if possible)
• 1 mango, chopped
Directions:
Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 12 mins
1 Feel free to adjust jalapeno and garlic according to your taste.
2 Combine all ingredients.
3 OPTIONAL: For a smoother texture, purée the onions, peppers, garlic, lime juice and cilantro in a food processor, and then mix, and then mix with the beans and mango.
4.Refrigerate for at least an hour to allow flavours to blend.
5.Serve with tortilla chips or tostado as an appetizer, or as an additional salad with grilled meat, or use it to fill a pita for an easy lunch.

Very simple.
1 block cream cheese at room temperature.
Pour over it 1 cup of your choice of salsa- homemade is best.
Enjoy with anything you care to dip into it.

Like @crisw suggested with salsa and cream cheese, you can instead pour caramel sauce over the cream cheese and serve it with fruit, apples and pears are especially good.

Best Dip Ever:
1 can Hormel Chili (with beans, with meat)
1 8 oz tub of whipped cream cheese
1 bag shredded cheddar

Layer: whipped cream, chili, cheddar
Microwave until cheese melts.

Serve with blue corn tortilla chips (or any really, those are just my favorite)

This dip is SO easy and doesn’t sound like much but I promise it won’t last.

Oh, in that case, here is a caramel sauce recipe that is awesome for dipping apples in. This recipe makes quite a bit, so you may want to halve it.

½ cup butter
1½ cup brown sugar
¾ cup light corn syrup
14oz sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
⅓ tsp cinnamon

Melt butter over low heat, add sugar, condensed milk and turn your heat up just under medium. Stir constantly until it comes to a boil, remove from heat and whisk in vanilla and cinnamon.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip

Good served with pretzels for the sweet and salty combo.

This one is super easy and looks very exciting because of the bright red/orange color. You take a block of feta cheese, put it in a bowl, pour in a jar of adjvar (or Trader Joe’s red pepper, eggplant and garlic spread like this) which is the exact same thing as adjvar (which can be found in the middle eastern section of most grocery stores), add a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper and mix thoroughly. Serve with blue corn tortilla chips for a dramatic contrast in color. Because of the color you can call it Fire Feta, Santa Claus Dip, Volcano Dip or Valentine’s Day Dip depending upon the season or type of party you are having.

Black Bean Dip

* 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
* ½ cup green onion, chopped, plus
* 1 tablespoon green onion, chopped, divided
* ½ cup tomato, chopped, plus
* 1 tablespoon tomato, chopped, divided
* ½ cup salsa
* 3 garlic cloves, minced
* ½ teaspoon chili powder
* 1 tablespoon canola oil
* ¼ cup cheddar cheese, shredded, divided
* ¼ cup fresh cilantro, minced (I do not use this – hate it!)

Saute beans, ½ cup onion, ½ cup tomato, salsa, garlic and chili powder in oil for 4–6 minutes, gently smashing the beans, until heat through. Remove from heat and stir in 3 tablespoons cheese and the cilantro. Top with remaining onions, tomato and cheese.

Use strong chips!

We call this Cowboy Caviar:
spread a softened 8 oz block of cream cheese in a glass pie plate. mix together a drained & rinsed can of black beans, chopped black olives, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp Greek seasoning ( I like Cavenders), ¼ small chopped onion, 1 tsp olive oil, 1 tsp lime juice and spread all on top of the cream cheese. Boil two eggs and chop them up and put them around the outside edge of the black bean mixture and chop the green parts of a spring onion and put this in the center. it makes a nice presentation and is delicious with Fritos Scoops.

Hot crab dip:
1 pound crab
1 8-ounce package cream cheese
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
½ pint sour cream
4 ounces grated/shredded cheese (sharp, coby jack, mozz… you can use any flavor you want, I like coby jack)

Soften cream cheese. Beat in sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire, and Old Bay seasoning. Fold in crab meat and cheese (fits well in a pie plate for baking). Bake for 30 minutes at 350. Serve with crackers or bread.
Enjoy!!!

@Seaofclouds Just to clarify, the crabmeat goes into the mix raw?

Seaofclouds's avatar

@bobbinhood Yes, it goes in raw and gets baked with the rest of the mix.

jca's avatar

I wonder how it would work if you used crabmeat in a can, which i think is cooked already.

Seaofclouds's avatar

@jca My mom has used crab dip in a container and it worked really well too.

My standby is fruit dip. I beat marshmallow fluff and cream cheese together until the mixture is smooth. I use a bit more fluff than cream cheese, but I can’t give exact quantities because I just do it to taste. It’s great on all berries, kiwi, grapes, pineapple, and I’m sure many other things. I didn’t like it on bananas. Everyone who tries this begs me for the recipe, so it’s sure to be a hit if you take it somewhere.

@bobbinhood Someone brought something very similar to this to the last potluck party I attended. Everytime someone would taste it for the first time, it was like they were having multiple orgasms. Pardon my French. ; – )

That reminds me of another one… I can’t recall exactly what was in it but it had Pistachio Jello mix and cool whip I believe… my god was that delicious!! (And that’s totally not my thing)

I just made Buffalo Chicken Dip:

1 cup chicken, chopped small
4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
½ cup sour cream
¼ cup hot sauce
¼ cup blue cheese
¼ cup mayo
¼ cup cheddar cheese, shredded

I think that was it. Just mix and bake at 350 for 20–40 minutes.
