If someone put laundry detergent in their dishwasher and tried to wash their clothes, would it work?

More importantly, has anyone on fluther ever tried it? Just a silly question I was wondering about…

I tried using dish detergent once…wow. What a mistake. Suds everywhere for five miles.

It’s funny you ask that as my wife just asked me the same thing last night and i’m going to tell you what I told her, “DO NOT D IT.” That is unless you want to have an entire house of bubbles.

This is a great question! I shall do an experiment one day, and tell you about the result. But it’s probably going to be like what @SuppRatings said. “Entire House of Bubbles”

But then again, who doesn’t like a good bubble bath.

I’ve done it several times in my poverty past. Laundry detergent works just fine- use lesser amt. It’s probably way cheaper, too. Liquid dish detergent is too sudsy.

Yes it could work, just Not with laundry detergent, though. Here are things you can clean with your dishwasher

And further, here’s a way you can steam cook in your dishwasher. I’ve heard that dishwasher Salmon is what some singles make.

No! Dishwashing soap is non sudsy. The bubbles would be coming out from everywhere. If you put regular hand dishwashing soap in the dishwasher it comes out from everywhere.

Wow, food?! That’s so awesome! Now I have to try it myself!

you’ll be swimming in bubbles!

Nope! Not enough water!

Do not do it…everybody above is correct! I hope Nayeight doesn’t do it!

Seems hollywood to me – if the dishwasher is closed enough to keep steam and water from spilling onto the kitchen floor then it seems to me that the bubbles from laundry detergent would stay in or wouldn’t have THE BLOB power which they seem to have on tv. Say, the sphere is supposed to be very structurally sound but I don’t think a brigade of them is going to push it’s way out. Still, I’m with the above answers. Why? You know that special something which keeps your whites whiter and your clothes smelling fresh?? Who wants a dishwasher and plates that have that residue after? Still, an intriguing idea. . . like, what’s to stop one from using medical-grade centrifuge for pre-drying clothes?

I had a G.E. when the bubble eruption happened. Don’t know how @cloudvertigo , but it DID. I now have a Miele…and, suspect that it wouldn’t happen, but why try? The reason I first did it, was in the name of cleaning things in order to move in. I didn’t have dishwasher soap, so . . .

I almost did it once and my boyfriend yelled NOOOOOOOOO, as he’d seen a machine
flood friend’s apartment. Not worth trying…borrow some proper soap from a neighbor!
