Can a dog catch rabies from eating warm or hot meat?

My mom said not to feed my pitbull warm or hot meat, ‘cause he could catch rabies.

Sorry, that is simply not true!!!! Maybe if it was the warm meat of a rabid animal, but that is probably not what you are planning to feed him, right????? I know lots of people who cook for their dogs (see Rachel Ray of Food Network fame). Just make sure the food is neither too hot nor too cold. Then no heavy exercise or rough play for about an hour while he is starting digestion.

No. That’s absurd. If that were true you would get rabies from eating also. As Marina says, it may not be the best idea for his digestive system, but it has nothing to do with contracting rabies. It must be an old wive’s tale your Mother heard somewhere. Just out of curiousity, why do you want to feed him hot meat?

Rabies is transmitted by direct contact with bodily fluids of an infected animal.
