Would dance teachers go for over confident cheeky girls for solos?

Asked by Hiphopbabe2k9 (8points) June 17th, 2011 from iPhone

What dance teachers notice in students? Do they Notice their cockiness or ability? There’s a girl in my hip hop class who is really cocky but don’t get me wrong she’s good but there’s this other girl who the over confident girl puts down who I think is better who would the dance teacher prefer for solos?

The better dancer makes more sense, but then again, maybe the teacher wants attitude more.

The one who dances the best and has confidence would be the logical choice.

I would assume, unless there is some sort of teacher’s pet action going on, that the teacher looks for is ability, confidence (not over confidence) and stage presence. Dancing is both about mastering the technique and the performance. I technically good dancer without confidence who can’t “command” the stage in a solo may not be the best choice.

Best dancer, stage presence, not so cocky she does not follow direction. There is a line.

If I were the teacher I would pick the cheeky and overconfident one, in hopes that she would fall down during the solo. This would afford an opportunity for pointing and laughing not only for me, but for the class and the whole audience. What can I say, I’m a very giving person.
Also I like cheeks.

They do notice.
Most will go for the level-headed girl with talent and potential—the second. People who are great dancers in the technical sense get turned down because of untamable attitude.
For dance, in general, what’s admirable hard work, confidence (not over-confidence) and maturity. Cocky usually fits with none of those.

I doubt a teacher would opt for the show boating over pure talent for the center spot light solo. Talent will win out over cockiness.

@koanhead And then would you stand over the humiliated dance student and say “I have the eye of the true teaching, the heart of Nirvana, the true aspect of non-form, and the ineffable stride of Dharma. It is not expressed by words, but especially transmitted beyond teaching. This teaching I have given to Maha-Kashapa” just to finish off the mind fuck? :-)

You’re fun, @koanhead. Though if anyone is paying attention we are so going to be busted for off-topic chatter in the general section. I am an incorrigible, repeat offender in that department, completely beyond rehabilitation and shouldn’t be corrupting you, but it was fun while it lasted. :-)
