What would happen if I used more than one coat per day of nail protein?

Asked by spittingamethyst (246points) August 22nd, 2011

I just removed my acrylic nails yesterday because me and my dog got in a little fight. So I ended up breaking a couple and I wanted to get longer ones anyway. I’ve been trying to strengthen them so that their in good condition when I get them redone. I have two different bottles of nail protein polish, different brands. One bottle says not to apply more than one coat per day…why?

This FAQ might hold a clue.

“Is it a problem to remain on Formula 2 after your nails become healthy?
No. However, Formula 2 may cause nails to become too hard or brittle. Healthy nails are firm yet flexible. If someone insists on remaining on Formula 2, the protein should not be applied any more than three times per week. Use Nailtiques Nail Moisturizer and Oil Therapy in conjunction with Formula 2.”

Sounds like they predict that nails will become too brittle with excessive application.
