What should I spend my Wii Points on?

Asked by gambitking (4206points) December 2nd, 2011

Help! I have 1100 Wii points burning a whole in my virtual pocket but I have no clue what to get. I’d like answers from my fellow gamers and Wii fans as what’s a good use of these points!

Maybe a quick ‘profile’ on my affinities could help with suggestions:

I’ve been an avid gamer since the NES, played all the systems. My top faves games list includes the Zelda, Metroid series and Mario (2D) platformers (of course), Ninja Gaiden, Twisted Metal Black, Halo 3, God of War series and the Burnout series. I like diablo-style brawlers, arcade style racing, I’m picky about my shooters and RPG’s but enjoy them.

I have high expectations for games and will usually love it or hate it within the first hour. I dislike games without any depth but I occasionally lean toward board or party type games and other multiplayer games that my wife likes to play.

Any ideas?

Cave Story. You have to buy Cave Story. Unfortunately, it’s 1500 points, but it may be the best platformer that I’ve ever played. Both the plot and gameplay are quite enjoyable. It’s worth plopping down 4 dollars more, trust me.
If you’re into Tetris, than I believe you can snag a copy of Tetris Party for that price (Not sure). I happen to love Tetris, and it’s a very content-heavy game for a wiiware title. That was worth my money.

A couple games that stand out for me & a few I have bought (unsure of their price).

WiiWare-
Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias
World of Goo
Swords & Soldiers
Mega Man 9
The Bit.Trip series (Beat, Core, Void, Runner, Fate, Flux) are now all released on a single retail disc for 39$. So if you’re interested in those, better to get the disc.

Virtual Console-
Zelda: Link to The Past
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Super Mario World (SNES)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
Mario Kart 64
Those are the games I feel have a lot of bang for the buck Wiipoint.

The only problem with MarioKart 64 is the control system – the classic controller scheme for it is ridiculous.

Streetfighter 2 Turbo is also available! Shoryuken! Hadouken! Spinning bird kick!

I had 1000 points, I think. I just grabbed Mario and Sonic. Stuff I’ll never stop playing.

Ocarine of Time!

Ocarina of Time is not a good game.

@jellyfish3232 I’m going to pretend that wasn’t said. I’m going to pretend that somehow a pet got up onto your keyboard and managed to submit that.

Provided you kill the pet, burn its remains, jettison the ashes into space, and nuke them; no one will get hurt.

No. Maybe it’s just because I’m young and ignorant, but it can’t even begin to meet modern standards. I heard that it was great, wasted ten dollars, and was greeted with great disappointment.

@jellyfish3232 That’s like saying Beethoven was shit at making dubstep.

Back when gaming meant more than good graphics and shitty content . . .

I see I’ve struck a nerve!
