No, no, @Logan_Amori_Federico , I understood the question, but I have never noticed that Americans do this. I was wondering if perhaps you have seen this not in the United States.

I understand your question. I’ve noticed the exact same thing about Americans. Plus, I often get from Americans at work, “Aren’t you cold wearing a short sleeve shirt in the winter? Just looking at you makes me shiver! Brrr!”

Americans are self conscious about arm-flab.

@zensky He isn’t wearing a t-shirt over a sweater, which by the way @Logan_Amori_Federico I have never seen either. Anywhere in America, ever.

I don’t know of anyone doing that. Do you see an example of it in any of these Zeke and Luther images ?

Some people do it because it’s a style they like. Some people like to wear layers. They’re not really wearing a short sleeve shirt over a sweatshirt, they’re wearing one over a long sleeve shirt, which is considerably lighter. Some shirts like this one are made to look like two shirts but are actually one (although this one definitely appears to be two). Long story short it’s a style, and one that you’re more likely to see on television (where people dress better anyways) than in real life.

I have never seen this in ‘real life’ but I suspect it is a form of costume.
Maybe they wanted a sign or expression on them, but didn’t want to ruin a shirt. . . .

@Logan_Amori_Federico, I’ve never seen Americans where a tee-shirt over a sweater and this may be just a translation error, but some Americans do where tee-shirts over long sleeved cotton shirts. It is just a style. Style, fashion isn’t necessarily rational, no matter what country you come from or live in. As @global_nomad mentioned, some people dress in layers and it is a common style casual style among some Americans, like the skateboarders in the pictures you linked to, but certainly not the way all Americans dress.

People layer for fashion purposes, or to be warm, but you mentioned it being summer time. As someone said above, sometimes it is actually a single shirt to look like two. Some parts of the US, even in the summer can be cool, especially at night. Some restaurants and shopping malls are over air conditioned and so people where long sleeves even when it is warm out. Also, I cover my arms at dusk and night time to avoid mosquito bites in the summer, or to protect my arms from the sun. Depends on the situation.
