Is Fluther a bit out of order?

Asked by Aethelflaed (13752points) May 10th, 2012

My lurve is coming in out of the chronological order it was actually handed out via GAs, and my messages are telling me I managed to reply to a message 2 minutes before the message I replied to was sent. Is there a bug in the system? Is this just me?

I have noticed for about a month that my message inbox has time stamps that make absolutely no sense. I reply to a message in many cases, according to the stamps, prior to having received them. I didn’t bother to complain, expecting the no further development answer.

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought Yeah, I’m not so much hoping that Bendrew will fix anything if that’s the issue, so much as I’ll be able to figure out if it’s just me.

You have to set the time on each server and fluther runs on a few.

And some have different functions. So if something happens on one server (like processing private messages) a different server displays it which is set to different timezone so it gets borked.

I don’t actually know. That is just my hunch.

It has been happening to me, too. I thought it was just a momentary glitch, but I guess not. I’ll pass it on.

Well if the Dr (@Imadethisupwithnoforethought) doesn’t know what’s wrong with the space-time vortex… we are stuffed.

It’s eddies. There are eddies in the time-space continuum. All sorts of odd things can happen, like a paisley couch popping out of thin air and floating around your lawn. Just ignore it. It will work itself out.
Winks and apologies to D Adams.

It varies from 1 to 3 minutes when you send a lot of messages. I’m guessing the system bundles them for more efficient processing.

Been happening to me for a month or two as well. The Milliseconds thing was funny at first, now it’s just annoying.

I’m antisocial. I wouldn’t know.

@Bellatrix I do have a theory now. I think @johnpowell is absolutely correct, but it started when they moved Fluther to a new provider a few months back, which maybe uses a different time stamp mechanism than the old provider, and it took us awhile to notice.

Dr. Emmett Brown of Back to the Future fame was correct to be concerned about disruptions to the Space – Time continuum. It has taken since 1984 for the effects to show up in the Fluther Universe!

@Dr_Lawrence So…. who has the flux capacitor?

Dr_Lawrence's avatar

The whole Delorean from the movie was recent purchased at auction. The flux capacitor was still in it.

I stopped getting the messages notifying me of replies to my activity about a month ago. All I get notices about now are PMs and requests to edit one of my idiotic questions to get it just under Fluther’s idiocy threshold. Sometimes I get notices that someone has added me to their Fluther. Quite often I do not. Quite spotty.

Who cares. They’re zeroes and ones.

@Blackberry What crawled up your butt today?

I wish anything would go in my butt. Lol.

I’m just kidding.

Well, there are always online adult stores. And hamsters.

“hamsters.” Guinea pig.

Animal abuse. How about a tarantula? You know, for a challenge.
