Miracle Whip vs Mayo... what changed or has it?

Asked by redhen4 (520points) September 11th, 2012

Recently, after YEARS of using Miracle Whip, I now cannot stand the taste or smell and have switched to mayo. I threw out several jars before I realized that no, it didn’t go bad, it has either changed or my taste for it has changed. Now I’ve switched to Best Foods mayo, for now.

I ran into a lady at the grocery who said the same thing. She no longer liked Miracle Whip. Did they change the recipe, or is it our taste buds changing again as we get older?

I’ve always used BestFoods mayo. The Miracle Whip was always too thin and too sweet for me. If the Miracle Whip no longer tastes the same, they probably changed the recipe. Try adding a little sweetener to the mayo and see if that makes it better for you. (Try just a little in a teaspoonful)

I agree, I used to love Miracle Whip, wanted nothing to do with Mayo. Now it is the other way around.

I’ve been using Nayonaise for years. I like it well enough. MW is way too sweet. Hellman’s Mayo is good when we’re away from home.

I’ve always hated Miracle Whip and I’m not going to try it to see if I still hate it. I like mayo in some things but not too much of it.

Mayo is one of those things that people are extremely brand loyal to. I only buy Helmann’s, I would never fathom using a different brand or buy Miracle whip. I only use mayo in chicken and tuna salad (very little mayo) and also I mix it with lots of dill for fish sticks. I would never spread it on bread for a sandwich, nor dunk a french fry in it.

Can’t say, have not had much of either. I can tell you my son will not eat MW but love Mayo.

Miracle whip is sweet and nasty, which is probably why some people like it ; – P

I’ve never like MW, I prefer Best Foods mayo. But since mayo has a lot of cholesterol, I switched to Vegenaise several years ago and I think it tastes almost exactly like regular mayo, even my non-veg relatives seem to think so.

I suppose it could just be my tastes changing. I used to dislike strawberries, now I love them. Could not eat cantelope(mussmellon? the orange kind) because it upset my stomach. Had some this summer and was fine.
