Is there an app that will record my daily path, and draw it as a line?

Asked by squirbel (4297points) September 15th, 2012 from iPhone

I am interested in making such a diary for analysis and streamlining.

There are many apps to do this. I use MapMyRide when I bike and it uses the gps info from my mobile device to capture the data and upload it.
There is also MapMyRun side of the site to help provide routes.
Using this should be one of many ways to do what you are looking for.

Yes; as noted above. But be advised that the apps that use GPS tracking will run down the battery considerably faster.

Good to see you, @squirbel!!

Hmmm, this will be me in my car. I don’t want to mess up their database of routes….

:P

I forgot the markup for comment text… But hi!

Waze is a navigation app that suggests routes, but also claims to learn your preferred routes. However, I don’t think it will track and display your routes, though.

How have you been?

I tend to assume that people are using iOS – are you using a different device?

squirbel's avatar

Waze is über cute!!! Totally deleting my motionx gps.

I still need a path tracking app. I’ll see if I can avoid uploading my paths with mapmyride.

Have you tried a web search? I just googled: gps tracking ios app, and several pages came up.

Found it!

EveryTrail.

Awesome.

Yeah, I googled roadtrip gps path.

I’m not sure exactly what you are looking for or what OS you are running, but I occasionally use Google’s My Tracks on hikes.

Would you consider using a GPS? There are many that will do that already and you can download your route directly to google maps or others. You won’t be using enormous amount of data nor run down your phone – and big brother Apple Android can’t track you.

I use Mapmyrun, seems as if it will do everything you want. I had a handheld GPS as @luckyguy suggested but it went through double a batteries rapidly. At least with your phone you can recharge when you need.

Tags guys, tags. I’m using iPhone, which has gps. I thank you all for your answers.

This is what chased me away from fluther the first, third, and second time.

@squirbel – looks like you should leave again.

@squirbel: I honestly don’t look at tags, as I consider those to be for categorizing questions for search purposes. I tend to expect that information in the Details section of the question.

I meant runkeeper, oooops and it does indeed work on iphone. I like it much better than mapmyrun, it does all the work for you.

I don’t read tags and while I usually hate when regulars gang up on others, you are pretty cranky!

I am not cranky at all. I am, however, very anal.
