Was this a good phone to buy?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) April 29th, 2013

My android samsung phone broke (it was a fourth replacement, but the rep told me that had lots of problems with that phone, and it always was replaced with a reconditioned one) so I was convinced to buy a new one, the galaxy 3 which is “the best phone of 2012.” Was this a good call (no pun intended…)? I don’t need zillions of bells and whistles, just a good reliable smart phone.

The Galaxy S4 was just released. If you’re in an area that has decent AT&T service, the Nexus 4 is a great option. It’s pure Google (no carrier or hardware manipulation/destruction of the OS) running the latest version of pure Android. And since it’s unsubsidized, you can avoid contracts and go month-to-month through AT&T or Straight Talk ($45/mo).

I have verizon, since I have one rural location that is served best by that company. That might limit my choice somewhat.

^^ Yep. Verizon here too. I went with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 back in November. But a coworker just received his Samsung Galaxy S4, which is great. Other than their non-stock Android experience (which is unavoidable except for Nexus devices), the only problem I have with Samsung phones is the physical home button. But I have adapted, and love my Note 2.

The reason I brought up the S4 is that if you just purchased the S3, exchange it for the S4. You’ll instantly get a better screen, better camera, better internals, latest software, etc. Verizon will usually have a 15-day window for exchanging.

The S3 is a good phone, it has and currently is serving me well.
But there is no reason to be stuck with a 2-yr contract with an outdated phone, return it for the S4!

Yes, I have time to exchange it.

I love my Verizon S3. The S4 has some new bells and whistles on it, but nothing I can’t easily do without.

If I had a phone which needed to be replaced FOUR times, (did I read that correctly?) I’d be seriously getting a totally different phone, most likely after the second time.

I commend you for your forbearance.

I’ve had the same iPhone 3G for the past FOUR YEARS with zero problems. The battery could most likely use a replacement but I’m using an external recharger so that’s fine.

Verizon now carries iPhones, just so you know.
