How do you picture the Fluther Mansion?

Asked by Plucky (10319points) June 17th, 2013

This was asked about 4 years ago. So I think it’s ok to ask again.

I am curious of what other Jellies picture the 10k Mansion to be like (photos are appreciated).

This is very close to how I have always pictured it. The photo is of a mansion called “Updown Court” in England. If you Google it, you can see some of the inside.

It’s a castle. It’s up on a hill, and when there it is like the real world is somewhere very far away. It has stone walls and some of the rooms are a little drafty. The main party room is cozy warm though and there are lots of places to sit, corners for intimate conversation. The backyard has a fabulous pool with a winding waterway like a lazy river where people can float and talk. There is also a poolside bar that you can visit by land or by pool.

Well, since our founders left it’s slowly degraded to it’s current state.

I envision an old Victorian mansion with lots of rooms and parties going on in some rooms, intimate conversations in others, intimacy of the intimate type in others, and people preparing food and snacking on it in the kitchen. Music, people outside on patio and by pool, drinking of coffee and/or alcoholic beverages, good food, good friends. Lots of festivities, lots of Jellies past and present and good times had by all.

@Bellatrix That may be what it looks like now, since I moved in and cleaned and painted and did all those damn dishes left over from pancake orgies, but this is what it looked like when I first got there.

Like the Winchester House in California full of stairs and doorways that go nowhere.

Dutchess_III's avatar

That was cool @rojo. Like a bunch of blind folded 10K Jellies building the house after a night of waaaayyyyy too many pancakes.

rojo's avatar

@Dutchess_III Probably Colomas’ Special Pancakes with whatever is left in the ‘fridge for dessert.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Probably brownies.

I see it more like a traditional English stately home, like Castle Howard (which is where Brideshead Revisited was filmed). That “Updown court” place is way too tacky for my taste.

This natural paradise works for me

No dusting or vacuuming and no issues with drains.

@XOIIO Are those pillow top padded walls!

I’m thinking it’s somewhere balmy by the sea, to go with our nautical theme…
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave (at least I have trouble doing so.)

You’re right, this was asked before. I agree that it’s time for an update. Some of those links don’t even work any more. There are some good answers there, though.

I think it’s kind of like some people’s idea of heaven; it looks different to every resident and is perfect for each of them. Sort of repeating my answer from @Jeruba‘s question, with updated links:

I always imagined it to be a combination of rustic and elegant. Sprawling, interesting, and a bit grand… but not too grand. It’s made of stone and wood, and has lots of unusual angles due to the many additions made over the years.

As to the inside of the place, of course there’s a wonderful library complete with a secret room hidden behind a bookcase door. Meals are served in the fabulous dining room, while after dinner drinks are savored by the fire. After a nice soak in your private tub, you can retire to one of many sumptuous bedrooms.

augustlan's avatar

Oops, my library link didn’t work. Try this one.

Jeruba's avatar

Ahhh, libraries. An effect you just can’t achieve with e-books.

And how about this one? or this? I think we can have more than one.

augustlan's avatar

One for each wing! Yes.

Hundreds of people sitting around on sofas, chairs, stairs, carpeting, at desks, etc. tapping away on their laptops, tablets and smart phones. No talking—just tapping.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@YARNLADY yabutt is that all the people waiting to get in??

YARNLADY's avatar

@Dutchess_III No, just enjoying each other’s company in the courtyard.

I had to think about what I imagined and each time I saw the mansion with no walls. The kitchen is most clear in my mind with multiple stove tops, ovens and a number of refrigerators. I think I imagine rooms for individuals according to their interests, but no cohesive structure for everybody. I see a personal space for each of us, but don’t go further. I guess I can’t trust enough to allow myself to see more. Hmmmn.

Plucky's avatar

@gailcalled I want the natural paradise!

These are really cool pictures everyone.

As for the question being asked by @Jeruba before, am I suppose to put the link in the question? I apologise if that was the protocol and I missed it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I think @augustlan and I can share a room. Floor to ceiling books, with a view out to the woods or a garden (that somebody else takes care of) and a fireplace for the winter. Room service.

Jeruba's avatar

@Plucky, no, it’s not protocol, and you haven’t done anything amiss. It’s just kind of a loose custom, a sort of casual courtesy for those who are curious and those who half remember. Old questions can be very hard to find even if you remember who asked them (as I did). Nothing to worry about.

A cross between This and This with a dining room like This and a view like this from the West and the East and the South and the North

And, of course, all of us standing around in the Lobby

Jeruba's avatar

Lovely, @Kardamom.

I’ve eaten in that dining room. Looked around but somehow missed seeing the jellyfish.

Plucky's avatar

That’s awesome @Kardamom.

@Jeruba they must have been cloaked.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Wow…I missed some of the links. I loved the ones @augustlan & @Jeruba posted of the libraries! Problem is….Jellies would be throwing books at other Jellies yelling “Look it UP!!!” There would be thrown books everywhere.

Plucky's avatar

Haha @Dutchess_III, I can actually picture that.

Dutchess_III's avatar

And Rarebear would be outside on the patio with his telescope yelling at everyone to “Come look at this! It’s the Big Bang!!”

Jeruba's avatar

I’ll be in the other library, where it’s calm and very quiet and books are handled with care.
