What seems unfair in arcade or video games from your experience ?

Asked by talljasperman (21916points) December 12th, 2014

For example some kid put a roll of quarters in a Gauntlet arcade game and charged a dragon and was instantly killed when the dragon breathed fire… No chance to survive. What about you what have you found to be unfair in a video game?

In Call of Duty multiplayer you don’t get to see the face of the loser you teabagged, although hearing their rage filled rant compensates somewhat for the lack of visual stmuli #pwned #noobs

The inabililty to save, especially in arcade games. You get to a very high level, then you have to go for something. You’ll have to choose either the game or the task. Agh!

@Mimishu1995 I didn’t have a save chip for the PlayStation 1 and I played Blasto for a whole 16 hours and won the game.

Charging a dragon is what I like to call “doing it wrong”.

I find the random matchmaking in games like Hawken and World of Tanks to be a bit unfair as often victory is less a matter of skill and more a matter of which team has fewer potatoes/noobs on it. That really isn’t fair to those who dedicated time and effort into learning to play. Meanwhile, mixing the potatoes with the highly-skilled (the ones that WoT calls “Unicums”, afer the Latin word that loosely translates to “Exemplar”) isn’t fair to the scrubs that get insta-gibbed and thus never have a chance to learn.

I find it unfair to put “Deathmatch” players in team events like “Team Deathmatch”, or the 15v15 battles of WoT as those players are so concerned with their own performance and so sure they know it all that they generally cause the whole team to lose then blame the rest of the team for their failure. If you want free-for-all fights, then don’t play team games!

The entire shooter genre from the arcade days. By shooter I mean what you might refer to as bullet hell today. Games like 1942 or Raiden. Tons of projectiles everywhere and you’re some shitty little airplane which goes down in one hit. 1942 actually has a life bar Madly going after all your power ups when you explode…I understand that IS the appeal of those games, but the fact remains that the genre died with the arcades.
At the exception of classics like R-Type where skill and strategy is involved instead of potential victory depending on how many quarters my dad gave me, you don’t see that genre around much anymore.

Realm of the Mad God (ROTMG) is just like you describe, only a simple glitch can trash your character and you lose everything.
