What does it feel to have nosebleed and lose consciousness?

Asked by micchon (391points) January 22nd, 2015

What do they feel like? I never experienced them at all. I also never experienced having a hoarse voice.

When I had a nosebleed I felt like my nose was running really badly and I put my hand up to stop it dripping and got a bit of a shock when my hand came away covered in blood. Apart from that shock, it wasn’t that bad. Not painful or throbbing. Remember that if you have a nosebleed, you should lean forward because if you swallow a lot of blood down the back of your throat you will probably vomit. You need to pinch the soft lower part of your nose to stop the bleeding.

I have fainted a few times. When it comes on I feel dizzy and then my vision disappears from the sides into the middle. I think people call this tunnel vision. At the same time my hearing starts to go and the sounds go muffled. Then everything goes black. While waking up I hear noises before anything else. One time I was also aware that I was moving and jerking. I think I might have been having a little bit of an epileptic fit but as I was in the toilet there were no witnesses. Then it feels like I’m waking from a deep sleep. I usually feel pretty rubbish afterwards and need time to recover and rest

I’ve had plenty of hoarse voices too. This is weird to describe. Usually for me there is no pain or sore throat, maybe just a little tightness or dryness. But my voice just won’t work. I think with this a virus causes your voicebox to paralyse temporarily. It lasts a day or two then the voice starts to come back, hoarse and gruff at first then slowly back to normal. Sometimes you just get a sore throat which causes your voice to be hoarse. This us usually painful because your throat is swollen and raw. I have had bad sore throats where it is too painful to swallow and when I eventually have to swallow, it feels like broken glass in my throat.

I get chronic nosebleeds; I have never gotten one from being hit in the face. I can easily tell when it’s a nosebleed because blood has a lower viscosity than snot. It just trickles down your nostrils, ready to come out, as @Stinley described. There really is no stopping it. However, sometimes I don’t feel this, and the blood just starts rushing out. It doesn’t hurt at all, it’s just annoying. You pinch your nose to get the blood to clot. A huge wad of thick blood collects, and when you let go of your nose and look back up, it slides down your throat. I usually catch it because it’s a gross feeling having it slide down your throat.

What is it like having a nosebleed and losing consciousness at the same time while having a hoarse voice? I couldn’t tell you.

I also have chronic nose bleeds. The first thing I feel is a thin liquidy stuff in my nose and I think “That’s not snot! Damn! Not again.” And no matter how much you try to tilt forward and continue my regular work, some blood goes down my throat… bleagh.

I have only fainted once. I had just moved to Florida and I wasn’t used to the heat. I don’t remember the fainting part. I just remember a grey haze and seeing what I thought at the time was an angel’s face speaking a strange language to me. Gradually, the haze faded and I understood the voice. It was saying “Are you OK?” over and over again. Then as my vision fully returned, I saw several people standing up and staring at my lying flat on my back. I had no idea what happened. I got up and felt totally normal. Everyone wanted me to sit and rest. I did, just to appease them. But I really felt totally OK after that.

I have had a few bloody noses and do know what it is like to loose consciousness from extreme loss of blood. Due to complications from my tonsillectomy and unbeknownst to me, my incisions kept bleeding and later that night I threw up 2 quarts of blood. In the emergency room, because I lost over a ⅓ of my blood, I just felt soooooo tired…more tired than I have ever felt and all I wanted to do was sleep. The doctors kept yelling at me to not close my eyes, but that was all but impossible. Finally as they were rolling me into surgery I closed my eyes for what should have been the last time and it felt good….so good to finally be able to sleep.

That is creepy, @Cruiser. I’m glad you woke up again.

Meed toooo @Here2_4 but for me it was nothing scary or painful it was a serene peaceful feeling. I even had a near death experience during it all….but that is another story.

I have not fainted from a nosebleed, but when I was a kid I had one so bad that I was afraid I was going to drown. I was sitting in the car (or I might have passed out) and I had frequent nosebleeds so my mother was relatively unconcerned.

Had to have come from my mother’s side. My mother’s only other son (my ½ brother) had so many nosebleeds they had to cauterize the insides of his nose. Had to smell lovely.

Okay, @Cruiser, I am going to think of a question to ask so you can tell the other story.

I have had nosebleeds, and I have fainted, but never the two together. I fainted once after giving blood, and I didn’t stop to have the snack on the way out. Wow, was it weird. I had no warning. I remember I thought, “Is that the ground?” As I had the thought, something hard hit my forehead, and all went black.
