Is it true that Donald Trump could "stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and [not] lose voters."?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) January 24th, 2016

‘I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,’ Trump said at a campaign rally here.

Do you believe that that’s true?
Do you believe Donald Trump thinks that’s true?

Is this an example of boisterous rhetoric, or a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Trump campaign’s mindset?

Well as long as it was a Democrat.

@gorillapaws That works for the Donald as well.

On Fifth avenue? You mean one o’ them libtard New Yorkers? Yeah, he’d be fine. He’d have to shoot Joel Osteen to get any negative response.

Given the people he is popular with (like David Duke and white supremacists) yes. And he thinks it is great!

He keeps escalating the outrageous rhetoric to keep attention focused on himself. By October he’s going to have to stomp on a bag of kittens or punch a baby in the face.

And those wouldn’t lose him any votes either.

Sorry, I find nothing amusing about Trump’s disgusting, meglamanical claim. In a society in which countless innocent people are being shot and killed by accident and on purpose every day, probably every hour, the last thing we need is for anyone, let alone a presidential aspirant, to boast about his ability to shoot someone without consequence. Disgraceful.

The Don playing his trump card, say some more mad shit & let the morons lap it up.

Pachy's avatar

Yes, @ucme, he is, but just because he has (or takes) the right to say any disgusting shit he wishes doesn’t make it advisable or right for him to say it. Some president this a**h*** would make.

Okay… enough of my Trump ranting…

Of course it’s not “true”. It’s political hyperbole. Have we been reduced to dissecting obviously and intentionally hyperbolic rhetoric?

LostInParadise's avatar

Absolute pompous arrogance without justification. I would not vote for anyone who would say such a thing let alone carry it out.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Want to get rid of the Donald, just tell him to prove it.

ucme's avatar

@Pachy Oh I agree, but there’s no one to stop him, a runaway train on a destructive path, only question is, how big the impact will be.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

He still needs to get past the Nominations at the RNC convention in Cleveland. Right now he is a “acting out” in the wacko ward in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.

jaytkay's avatar

I just recalled something else egregious that hasn’t lost Trump any support.

“Our wages are too high. We have to compete with other countries”

Think about that. Trump wants workers to have less money.

No surprise, though. Conservatives have proved many times that racism and braggadocio will earn the votes.

If you watch the video he actually raises his hand and does the shooting motion. Which, at least for me, makes it much worse.

@Seek, It might be a wash for votes gained versus votes lost. As a lifelong libtard myself, I might vote for Trump if he whacked Joel Osteen and others of his ilk.

Seek's avatar

I’d rather he taxed them.

I wonder who his first target would be: Cruz? Bush? Rubio?

Thing is, he is right. His acolytes are so blind to societal norms, that he probably would get away with it. His supporters would rationalize that he had done no wrong.

Trump Goose-Stepping into the White House could be a thing. The parallels are somewhat astounding.

edit :: And yeah.. Trump is beginning to look a lot like Hitler. Just so I am clear.

chyna's avatar

He’s a pompous ass.

Cruiser's avatar

I don’t think he had any real voters to even lose.

LostInParadise's avatar

If Trump gets the nomination, the most important thing for the Democrats to do is to get out the votes. We have the numbers. It is just a matter of getting them to vote. I would use this remark specifically for the purpose of getting Democrats to the polls. I would say that if you don’t vote, this man is going to be president, and the one he goes after just may be you.

rojo's avatar

Not sure how closely they check the vote in NY but depending on his aim, he could lose one.

ragingloli's avatar

Considering his target demographic, if you will pardon the pun, he could probably gain voters.

ibstubro's avatar

The danger for Democrats, @LostInParadise, is in getting out the votes, but splitting them.

What scares me the most is that I think this was a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes at the Trump campaign. They believe it.

What should be hyperbole among staffers just spews right out of the Horse’s Ass in front of his followers, and they don’t bat an eye.

I just came across this article where Sanders makes the same point about turnout.

The dude makes me sick.

Does anyone know what Rush Limbaugh and Steyn Howie Carr, (his supporters) have said about that statement? He’s saying they are dumber than a bag of hammers or insane or isn’t he?

…I meant (above) Rush Limbaugh, Mark Steyn, Howie Carr, ...
