Is anyone really surprised that the US has been spying on Israeli military communications for decades?

The U.S. Has Been Spying On Israel For Over A Decade: Report

Intelligence agencies believed “This access is indispensable for maintaining an understanding of Israeli military training and operations and thus an insight to possible future developments in the region.”

Can that be disputed?
How outraged can you be when an ally uses your communications to further your cause?

Oh puhleeze…. Everyone is spying on everyone else. Israel makes fantastic equipment to do the job and have been monitoring us as well! No big deal.

China has one of the best and most aggressive networks. They actively put software bugs in commercial products for access later. Remember the electronic picture frame incidents a few years ago? Millions of them are still out there. Ugh!
Drive your car down the highway and you will occasionally see a van with antennas parked on an overhead ramp. That is a Stingray vehicle. They spoof your cell phones into thinking they are commercial towers. They’re not.
If you don’t want anyone to know something don’t transmit it electronically or over the air.
I would never tell anyone that [redacted] is really [redacted] and is [redacted] the father. That leak would have disastrous consequences on [redacted] and [redacted]..

Agreed with @LuckyGuy and others.

Spying is what the government – all governments – do. We spy on our friends, and we spy on our enemies. And in Israel’s case, it’s sometimes not clear which role they play.

And they spy on us, for the same reasons.

The way I see it, this isn’t news. Why Huffington chose to run this today is a mystery. There’s nothing surprising here.

I’d be surprised if there was a country we are not spying on. I will send Snowden a tweet to see if he can confirm this for us.

@ibstubro How outraged can you be when an ally uses your communications to further your cause? There wasn’t much outrage when Israel was caught securing a double agent in Jonathan Pollard. And no one argued in Congress against giving Israeli defense money.

Also, US intelligence was also listening on Angela Merkel’s phone calls, too.

…and Mossad would have been remiss if they had not been doing the exact same thing to us.

with “allies” like this, who needs enemies?

The Americans were using their station in New Zealand to spy on Japan in the 70’s and 80’s. They were taking intelligence they collected on the car manufacturers and passing it on to the industry in the US.
The Americans also know where illegal arms are being traded and who is doing it off the coast of Africa. Ever hear of a little island called Malabo? Crazy corrupt and Crazy dangerous. I’m going to get myself killed telling stories like this.

Conversely, I have little doubt that Israel is spying on the US.

To a certain extent it’s a method of sharing information that can’t be funneled through normal channels.
It’s an unofficial, behind the scenes, sharing of sensitive information that we’re shocked, ”shocked we tell you!!” was intercepted.

The question isn’t ‘Are there spies?’
The question is what else are they doing besides watching?
