Does anyone think Cruz making matzoh and Kasich pigging out helps those candidates?

Asked by JLeslie (65418points) April 15th, 2016 from iPhone

Have you seen the clips on TV of those two things? I can’t imagine one New Yorker looking at that and not thinking those events aren’t fake and weird. It call looks so uncomfortable to me.

Did the other candidates do anything like that? They probably did, I just haven’t seen it. What did they do if anything?

Candidates debase themselves all the time and the more desperate the candidate, the
more abdurd the pandering. Cruz in particular faces big challenges once he sets foot outside Texas. The message “hey, I’m just plain folks” is a really tough sell for Cruz and I frankly don’t know why he bothers

@stanleybmanly I would assume the Orthodox Jews in NY already were likely to vote for Cruz.

When I see candidates doing that crap, to me it’s like a reality TV show. Set up, staged, they take two minutes to do the activity for the cameras and then they shake hands and leave. SNL did a spoof this past weekend with Hillary trying to get on the NYC subway and not being able to properly swipe her card, and faking eating a hot dog and things like that.

Hillary really did have issues with her metro card, too.

Yeah, the Metro Card thing seemed silly to me. I buy the temporary ones and also often have problems with the swipe.

I forgot about the Hillary subway metrocard thing. The cards are very finicky, you have to swipe at just the right speed. Still, it is the same sort of attempt as Cruz and Kasich who I mentioned above. Not the metrocard, but the whole filming her taking the subway. Mayor Bloomberg used the subway and people seemed to like that. That he was a “real” New Yorker.

What has Trump and Bernie done in NY to make the same sort of media clip?

Seek's avatar

@JLeslie – Well, Bernie was endorsed by the New York Transit Workers’ union.

He actually uses public transportation. Regularly. Until he got Secret Service protection, he flew Coach and used the train to get to work every day.

You know, like a person, and not a faker.

JLeslie's avatar

@Seek Like I said, Hillary’s subway clip was the same as Cruz making matzoh. I’m just saying dwelling on about the metrocard is a little ridiculous, because even New Yorkers sometimes don’t get it on the first swipe.

The point is the fact that the theatrical performance even happened. The fact that she flubbed it during the performance is icing.

JLeslie's avatar

^^I agree. I’m agreeing. I’m not defending her. I’m putting her in the same category as the others. I was making a criticism of the media regarding the card.

It’s sucking up.
“I care enough about your approval to make a buffoon of myself.”
No one is surprised.
Yeah, so, Hillary related to Nellie Oleson in Little House and Ted Cruz idolized Eddie Haskel. Where’s the news flash? ~

Saw part of the debate. Hillary got all fourth grade on Bernie. “Well, President Obama thought I was qualified enough to make me Secretary Of State of the United States.
The only thing missing was nya nya at the end. LOL LOL LOL LOL oops, I made tears down my leg.

@ibstubro It just makes no sense. Like I said, what New Yorker takes any of that seriously? In other states they stop by local cafés and talk to people, I think sometimes they also take a bite of some famous sandwich. Some of the whole meeting people and talking to them can seem genuine, but stuffing their face and going in the subway with a fleet of security people seems stupid. How does that gain votes? If anything it makes me not want to vote for them.

ibstubro's avatar

It’s mostly all stupid, @JLeslie. It’s the American Political process. Politicking began at the state fair level, and stuffing your face/kissing babies is what you do.

Yes, making matzoh is pandering. But it’s also something Jewish people can relate to. Even better if he messes something up. It’s largely under the radar of the rest of the voting public, so where’s the harm?

Hillary had to ride the subway because Bernie rides the subway. Footage in case Bernie brings it up. Now everyone has stock footage of the time Hillary flubbed the subway. Yippee.

Disclaimer: I have seen none of this shit, not being a TV subscriber.

Pandering to the masses who just seem to eat that kind of thing up.

jca's avatar

I also heard news clip of her saying “The people of NY elected me Senator two times.”

Pachy's avatar

No!!! And considering the filty money and politics especially Cruz has his hands in, I wouldn’t go near anything he touched

JLeslie's avatar

@jca They did.

@ibstubro I’m pretty sure most Jews buy matzah in the store.

ibstubro's avatar

Then it’s high time they watched Ted Cruz and learned how to make it, @JLeslie!
