Can you tell us something that you're grateful for today?

Asked by Haleth (18947points) May 22nd, 2016

Or a couple things?

It’s raining outside and I have my window open and I’m listening to the rain. My cat is curled up at the foot of my bed with his little paws tucked under his chin and I’m under a big fluffy comforter right now. Also I had a pretty nice day today and my life is about a hundred times better than it was a year ago.

What are you grateful for?

My summer holiday has come and now I’m enjoying myself without worrying about any work for the first time in the year.

Clean water, clean clothes, plenty, great job, great running car, family, good health, electricity, dawn chorus outside my window, nuts for the squirrells, seed for the birds, fruit for the crows, my own bathroom, my family

I can list a whole bunch. Good job, good child, great weekend, great friends, parking spot at work, living in a nice area, summer’s coming with the promise of trips and nice weather and hanging out on the deck, good family, the list goes on and on.

I quietly watched an unusually magnificent sunrise over the ocean from a cliff on horseback with my dogs. I thanked mother nature for her beneficence and was truly grateful to be alive in such a beautiful, peaceful part of the world.

I was struggling this morning with intense physical pain, life worries, and a sense of loneliness while driving to work. When I drove through town and came to a traffic light, I noticed that the guy driving the car behind me was crying. He was really sobbing, and kept removing his glasses to wipe his eyes. A few minutes later, we approach another light, and there he is again sobbing.

I was struck with an indescribable feeling that I wanted to hug this guy. In a strange way, my overwhelming compassion for him turned towards myself as well. I didn’t feel lonely, and I felt lucky to feel the pain, worries, and joy of this short little experience of life. I really have no way of explaining how I feel with words. But I am grateful for it all right now.

I am rapidly approaching 1 week of unemployment so I’m feeling pretty bitter right now but I do have a lot to be thankful for.

I am lucky to have a degree in computer science, a very employable field. I am lucky to have been able to get that degree mostly on my parents’ dime. I am lucky I recently finished paying off my student loans. I am lucky my last job paid me well and I have savings to live off of right now. I am lucky my boyfriend is employed and can cover the groceries and whatnot until I am employed again. Things could be so much worse right now.

I’m grateful for my comfortable life. That my worst health problems are minor niggles. That my family and friends love me.

I’m also grateful that I found Fluther. I like it here.

I am grateful that I finished two small chicken houses this week to replace the old, dilapidated one. The old one probably would not survive another hurricane season. They both house 4 hens each and are elevated off the ground, complete with roomy nests, a roosting level, a common area, feeder and waterer, small tool locker, a screened first level so that the droppings will go straight to the earth and a ramp leading into a large chicken run that opens into the fenced garden for short, daily, supervised “debugging” visits.

One is completely portable by human power and the other is on sleds and portable by Betsy the burro. I re-purposed some materials successfully, wasted very little wood on bad cuts and ruined no precious hardware. Now I must make one more of each to comfortably house my 16 hens in happy homes. One will have an incubation room. I’m very happy with the results.
