It is short for Voice Phishing. It’s when a slimebag individual calls a victim on the phone and tries to convince them to reveal information that will then be used in a fraudulent way.
The fraudster might pretend to be an IRS agent, or a credit card operator, or a Microsoft agent, or even a long lost grandchild.
These people deserve to rot in a shallow grave.

I had a call from someone doing the Microsoft scam and I just kept him on the line as long as I could to mess with him and reduce hisr ability to bother someone else.

None of these articles mention my favorite method of avoiding this stuff…I don’t pick up the phone if I don’t recognize the number, and I don’t call them back!

Manners… and respect for elders.
