How would you feel if Trump were assassinated?

Asked by MrGrimm888 (19010points) February 25th, 2017

I hear some pretty awful things being said about him. And his mouth doesn’t help him much. He made his money making enemies.
I think most of the “assassin” types are on his side,so hopefully it won’t happen. He’s got to be a hard guy to protect.

I’ll hold my opinion until the thread gets some responses.

I will say that I hope it doesn’t happen. But this is about if it did.

Pros,cons?

I guess I want you to honestly pretend you just heard he was killed.
How would you feel?

What would go through your mind?

I put this in social so people could have less constraints , but please be relevant.

He would be a martyr. His fans are authoritarian followers, and would take it as “proof” that they are opressed victims.

Much better that he takes himself down by being a rotten president and rotten person. G W Bush was bad enough that he is not invited to Republican conventions and has never been asked to a GOP campaign event. Trump is immensely worse. I will be surprised if he lasts two years without resigning or even being impeached by his own party.

Sneki95's avatar

I wouldn’t feel anything.

flutherother's avatar

The problem isn’t just Trump it is the huge numbers of people who support him. I am not a fan of Trump but if I heard he had been killed I would be shocked. Trump is very divisive alive and he could be even more divisive dead. It is better to keep him and his policies under constant scrutiny. Dictatorships flourish best in the shadows.

cazzie's avatar

I would feel horrified and sick. And cheated out of impeachment proceedings.

How did you feel when Bin Laden was assassinated?

Bill1939's avatar

That would make Pence president that in my opinion would be an outcome worse than keeping Trump for one full term. Better that we replace the dominant party in congress in two years and the White House in four.

cinnamonk's avatar

Gleeful at first, but then awash in waves of terror because as Bill pointed out it would mean that Pence was president.

SecondHandStoke's avatar

I dunno, how should one feel about one taking the life of another.

Fucking hypocrites…

cinnamonk's avatar

@SecondHandStoke so you didn’t celebrate when Osama bin Laden got shot in the face by a Navy SEAL?

Some people make the world a better place by dying.

cazzie's avatar

How did I feel when Osama Bin Laden was killed? IS that now the new question morphed here? When the hell are you people going to realise that killing one person doesn’t solve shit when it is actually ignorance and mislead ideals that are the actual problem??

Sneki95's avatar

^ This. I agree 100%. Killing anyone doesn’t solve the problem at all.

filmfann's avatar

Assassinating Trump would elevate Pence, who would then need to be impeached. That elevates Paul Ryan to the presidency (assuming Pence doesn’t appoint a new Veep). I don’t like Ryan, but I think he is far more reasonable than Pence or 45.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Not good. I don’t like anything about him, but he’s a person with a family and I value human life. But, politically, I am just as terrified of Pence, if not more so, than I am of Trump. The religious right scares the shit out of me. So, I guess uneasy is the best answer I can offer.

cinnamonk's avatar

The question wasn’t “what would Trump’s assassination solve,” it was “how would it make you feel.” My answer stands.

elbanditoroso's avatar

I might begin to believe in god.

kritiper's avatar

Not too surprised.

MrGrimm888's avatar

@cinnamonk . Correct. I am looking for a human response to another’s death.

i.e. @cazzie is correct,but off topic.

I was hoping to remove the negative feelings most have for him,and see how people would feel if he were killed.

When I personally do the exercise, I find the whole thing sad. @cazzie hits bullseye by calling out those who elected him as those to blame. But ,again, how would you honestly feel if Trump were himself killed?

Side note; the martyr thing never occurred to me. Interesting point @Call_Me_Jay .

And I don’t appreciate the comparison to OBL. Not yet anyway.

Trump is a slightly above average intelligence, loud mouth, scumbag. But he is where he is because of American voters. Bearing that in mind, he’s just a crazy 70 year old man who is really a product of society. His children are the offspring of prostitutes, but still people. His wife is a prostitute, but still human.

Part of me thinks Trump is too ignorant to know how terrible he is. That’s not a good excuse for his behavior, but again, he didn’t vote himself in.

I think I would be sad. His assassination would be further embarrassment for a country that has become vulnerable to corruption and those who would harness it’s most ignorant people’s fears.

In the end Trump will die anyway, like all of us. Father time is undefeated. He is the great equalizer.

I was surprised by my own feelings of his hypothetical demise. That’s why I brought it up…

Conflicted, but hopeful

Jeruba's avatar

I think it would be a terrible thing for this country. No matter how much we dislike a president, his violent death would do violence to the nation.

It will be fine with me to see things take their natural and legal course with this president through one of the established branches of government; but murder is a vile and abhorrent act, no matter who is the victim, and assassination of a leader disrupts, destabilizes, and demoralizes, with consequences that persist through generations. I hope no one is so demented as to do such a thing.

And I have no appetite for seeing him deified.

Would be a great way to finish the movie

Zaku's avatar

Pros: I’d think he had it coming, and be glad at least one idiot met a well-deserved early grave.

Cons: His next-in-line, Pence, is perhaps more evil and certainly less clown-like, so it could make things worse rather than better. At least Trump’s blatant ineptitude and ridiculousness tend to make his evils less effective and more mobilizing against him. Also, there could be a martyr factor for his retarded supporters.

YARNLADY's avatar

Personally, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised, and I also favor capitol punishment.

Cruiser's avatar

Just as bad as if any Jelly or other person who got assassinated for trying to do their best at the job they were tasked to do.

MrGrimm888's avatar

@Cruiser . Thats kind of how I feel. But I didn’t think I’d be upset. It surprised me that if I found out he was killed, it would affect me negatively. I am an asshole. And I just hate people more as time goes on. But I like your reasoning (in this case.) Maybe he’s doing the best he can. Maybe he is ,or thinks he’s doing good for the country, and it’s people.

Cruiser's avatar

@MrGrimm888 Obviously we see Trump and what he IS doing through different colored lenses and mine are not rose colored. The upside to this morbid question is Pence is on deck and he is solid and solid can be. Take Trump out and the Trump train keeps a rollin….

cazzie's avatar

Honestly, I can’t wake up and watch the news sober.

tinyfaery's avatar

Meh. I don’t think it would bother me all that much.

Strauss's avatar

I think it would be a tragedy. It’s not quite gotten to the point that we’re living under the fascist dictatorship, where assassination is the only way.

Yellowdog's avatar

I think this list has overwhelmingly demonstrated that more than half of you would LOVE to see Trump assassinated. Some of you only fear that Pence would be worse than Trump. This speaks volumes in itself.

I have heard victims of schizophrenia tell of their fears and thoughts on the police, churches, the funeral industry, former presidents, and high-level conspiracies involving the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Many of the comments here seem to be in the same mindset, not just political opinion.

cinnamonk's avatar

It certainly does speak volumes about the depths of the evilness of both Trump and Pence, @Yellowdog.

Yellowdog's avatar

I knew a schizophrenic who was convinced that the government or phone company was listening in on his private telephone conversations. When I asked him how he knew this, he claimed he heard the equipment switch on.

This guy probably only used his phone because the star key could let people into the building when they called on the intercom.

I asked him why the government or phone company was listening in on him—who basically lives quietly by himself and never bothers anyone. He said, they were trying to prove he was crazy and he’s not. When I asked why they would do that, he said, that just shows the depths of evilness of our government. I think he cited the Patriot act or some government wiretapping conspiracy.

Yellowdog's avatar

Come to think of it, maybe you’re him! :)

(Kidding if it’s not obvious)

cinnamonk's avatar

If you think that government wiretapping of private citizens without consent is just a baseless conspiracy theory then that shows the depths of your brainwashing.

cazzie's avatar

yeah… folks are in exile for actually exposing that shit.

MrGrimm888's avatar

As far as I’ve heard, there is a crazy conspiracy minded person, who thinks everyone is out to get him. That’s Trump himself. @Yellowdog try applying your comparison to your friend to Trump’s words and actions.

He claimed that the US election was rigged. Then he won ,so he stopped that. Then he went back and said millions voted in multiple states to keep him from winning the popular vote. He has said the media is trying to ruin him,and yet he constantly uses twitter, usually to whine about people like himself. He has banned the press ,basically, from fear of reporters asking him “life ruining questions. ”
He displays manic, mercurial mood swings. He is wildly fraught with insecurities. He has knee jerk ,emotional responses. He thinks Obama was born in Kenya, and is involved in a plot to dethrone him and become a dictator who is secretly Muslim. He thinks there are millions of illegal immigrants here trying to undermine, and abuse the US government. Sadly, I could go on all day.

I posed the question in an attempt to humanize a man who seems to spend every moment making himself look like a lunatic. If you don’t think these are the actions /rhetoric of a conspiracy minded crazy man,you have the observational skills of on ostrich with it’s head in the sand. Or you’re being willfully obtuse, like most of his supporters.

His behavior could lead to an assassination attempt. I wanted people to seriously consider that he is a human being, with a family, and feelings. NOT to have a laugh at his possible demise.

People are (justifiably ) scared of him,and his supporting cast. That’s why you see the answers you see here. Responses are overwhelmingly negative because Trump is overwhelmingly negative for the country, and the world.
