Can this happen to anyone?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) March 28th, 2017

You might be very good logical thinker and can assess complex situations easily but get stuck while dealing with simple situations. How can you explain this? What might be the reason for this?

The person could be a genius -savant. I have an I.q. over 140 and I can’t tie my shoes. My mom did for me 20 years ago and I slip my shoes on and off . Keeping the same tie since 1999. I’m proud that I took good care of my shoes.

Lack of concentration/experience/education, context, disability on one way or another, multiple types of intelligence…....

It can be anything, depends on the situation.

It’s about aptitude. My best friend is an absolute genius who couldn’t change a tire if his life depended on it.

Perhaps the person is not very in touch with the non-thinking parts of their human condition.

Does the person mainly “live in their head” and think what they are is their thoughts?

This is very common, particularly in a modern Western society where rational literalism has many people disassociate from the embodied, emotional and intuitive parts of their life experience, and where Christianity has removed most of our connection with actual spirituality (by eradicating other spiritual practices and not offering much actual spiritual practice itself).

You mean like the guy with an IQ of 190, but lacks common sense and sticks his finger in a running fan blade?

^^ You’re going to the extreme. I’m not talking about insane but doing stuff like interacting with people, having meaningful conversation etc.

Well, OK. Perhaps they feel most comfortable in their own world. Perhaps people around them can’t relate to the things they relate to. Maybe they’re shy. Regarding “Meaningful conversation,” I don’t know many people IRL who can carry one what I would consider a “meaningful conversation.” What is a meaningful conversation, anyway? I think I’ll ask that as a question.
