Too early to tell, since the new guy isn’t in the position yet. But I think there are some guesses:

1) ISIS terrorists are going to try and hit France again to make Macron’s life more challenging.

2) Macron is going to ally with Merkel and make Brexit even more difficult for Britain (which, by the way, Britain deserves)

3) He’s going to have a challenge getting stuff done in the Assemblee Nationale, since he doesn’t have a strong political party to back him up.

4) He and Trudeau (Canadian PM) are going to go surfing together.

Well, part of the effect will be relief that the ENTIRE world is not going crazy, just the English speaking parts.

“The effect of French [politics] on the world” ... oh, that’s a good one. Since when has France been relevant outside of its own borders, or the EU? And it’s a lot less relevant in the EU than Germany or, even pending Brexit, Britain.

@cwotus – it may not be relevant or significant compared to other major players but it has shown that people can take correct decisions without being blinded by what’s going on around them.

1# is still a can of worms for now. But I do imagine how something like that could become problematic for Macron and possibly strengthen a Le Pen 2022 future (or the likes) even a bit further.

I think 2# would likely happen. But I guess time will tell once Brexit officially begins to set.

3# may likely happen too.

Can you elaborate on the 4th for me again?

@CWOTUS I think you’re wrong. If Le Pen got in and France withdrew from the EU or even totally closed its borders, it would profoundly affect the balance of power in the world and give Russia even more of an opening.

Foreign companies might have lax rules on laying off French workers soon.

Okay time to stop this ignorance & educate some of you americans
The Le Pen family have been involved in french politics for decades, her share of the vote represents a sea change for the country because the populism in her party is just going to grow & grow until sometime soon they gain power.
Hideous as that sounds, it is a huge misrepresentation of the likely future of France & its politics to brush this election of as a bullet dodged, this shot is going to ricochet back & bite you on the arse.
