I told a good friend that I had a medical condition. She dumped me as a friend.

Not a secret exactly, but I once privately asked my son if his girlfriend (now wife) had a mental deficiency, and he told her what I said. Now she hates me, even though it turned out to be true, she is mid-functioning autistic.

Yes. I confided in someone early in our relationship and he used it against me whenever he got the chance. I have never confided in him again.

My cousin is a loud-mouthed asshole who just can’t keep her mouth shut. I regret telling her my secret twice. The second time I thought she had redeemed herself. And both times the things that were supposed to be between me and her became the hot topic for the entire family. That, and along with several other things, makes me cringe every time think about her.

Yeah.
I learnt to keep my mouth shut when the same situation happens again.

Sure. Secrets aren’t a good idea.

I tend to trust people more than they are likely not to betray the trust. I even have given people multiple chances despite broken trust. And I don’t extend some people betraying trust to everyone being untrustworthy. But I have also learned that it’s always a possibility that trust will be broken or regretted. It can be worth having someone betray a confidence, to find out how those people behave, especially if it’s been little things that were not so crucial anyway.

Yes, many times. Sometimes it can come back to you in unexpected ways too. Like that person leverages it to blackmail you either directly or indirectly.

Be careful.

Yes, once I told my really good friend that our principal was stupid and I thought he was disabled cause he is cray cray then she told him and I litteraly got suspended but I was happy cause I didnt go to school.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Ok, that was simply stupid. All the way around. I can’t imagine going to a principal and telling them that someone had said something mean to them, and I can’t even imagine a grown up, adult suspending a kid for such a silly reason, as if he’s a 7th grader himself. If that story is true, that principal needs to go back to grown up school. So what if he’s already put 8 years of college under his belt.
