Have you listened to Arcade Fire's new album "Everything Now"?

Asked by rockfan (14627points) September 2nd, 2017 from iPhone

If so, what do you think of it?

I’ve been a major fan of their music for a while, and I was especially looking forward to see how their transition to dance-rock music would turn out.

Unfortunately I think most of the album is utter nonsense. The singles Everything Now and Signs of Life are quite good, but everything else is depressingly terrible in my opinion, especially the grade school level lyricism of Chemistry, “Peter Pan”, “Infinite Content”, and “Put Your Money On Me”.

Plus, the singing by Regine Chassagne is unusually shrill and annoying on “Creature Comfort” and “Electric Blue”.

I have not yet heard it, but I also like Arcade Fire a lot. Now you’ve got me worried.

Thanks for the tip. Reflektor was a huge disappointment, and they’d fallen off my radar since them, despite the fact that I lived in Montreal when they were coming up and was an early fan. I’ll check it out and get back. I’ve felt they’ve consistently been going down since Funeral, but I’m always down for being proved wrong.

@Smashley

Personally I absolutely loved Funeral, and I think The Suburbs is their best album to date. I thought Reflektor was an interesting album, but definitely a hit or miss affair.

Funeral was the best, yo. I felt like they knew what they were talking about, and each album after was trying to push some message about what they thought the problems with Americans are. I didn’t hate any of their albums, but I could feel them losing their touch.

Still gonna reserve judgement on the new one till I get a chance to listen.
