Your opinion on the best wireless solution for me?

Asked by Bri_L (12219points) August 12th, 2008

I have a MacPro Desktop in the basement. A MacPro laptop upstairs. A PC Laptop with wireless capeablity and an iPod touch. I don’t need to wirelessly print, but that would be more convenient under some circumstances. Should I consider AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or a Non-Apple solution. Please explain your reasoning. Thanks in advance.

i’d just take an extreme, for reliability reasons, yeah it’ll cost you but it’ll be worth it

you could even consider creating an extra wireless network for the phone if the rest of the devices are all up to N draft specs., touch goes up to B or G i think, and would pull down the speed of an N network (if you offcourse need that speed in your network)

Seconded on the Airport Extreme; you won’t notice any difference between N & G for web surfing/streaming unless you’re networking wireless hi-def (Apple TV, but even then it’s compressed with H.264).

Some go for an Extreme with an additional Airport Express set to G (it can relay on N to/from the AEBS). But that’s pretty much overkill for most casual surfing needs.

I recently got a 500GB Time Capsule and haven’t regretted the decision at all. My three Macs and work PC connect to it seamlessly.

I’d also suggest a time capsule. it’s a wireless hardisk, a wireless router and you an connect your printer to it to print wirelessly from all your computers.
