Need whiter teeth?

Asked by Laura8888 (264points) August 30th, 2020

I enjoy red wine and tea but it’s made my teeth not as white as they used to be. I don’t like white strips because they irritate my gums. Whitening toothpaste doesn’t really impress me. Don’t want to spend a lot at the dentist for a bleach job. And my brother said the bleaching he got from his dentist did little for his teeth and he asked for a refund. Has anyone tried something they’re really impressed with? Thanks.

The three things I know of to whiten teeth are all things you object to for reasons stated.

I’d either limit my drinking of red wine and tea or I’d drink it with a straw if I were you.

Teeth do tend to yellow as we age so unless you use something like the three things you object to, you are going to have some yellowing that is unavoidable.

I think the dental bleaches get the best results unfortunately.

I would brush my teeth immediately after drinking or eating foods that darken teeth. Brush twice and leave the toothpaste from the second brushing on as long as you can stand it.

I’m old enough that bleaching hadn’t been invented when i had a similar problem. My dentist recommended that I make a paste out of baking soda, salt, & hydrogen peroxide & then brush my teeth with it. It did make my teeth feel cleaner, but I’m not sure that it made them that much closer to sparkling white. I have read online that you can make the same paste then place it on some aluminum foil, form it against your teeth. Then you leave it on while you watch TV or playing on your computer. When you remove the foil, you’re supposed to brush your teeth & then rinse well. To me, that makes more sense than brushing with the paste. It’s cheaper than a dentist bleaching & IF it doesn’t work, you can always give in & get a bleaching from a dentist & you won’t be broke until the dentist finishes with you!!!
