Is it true that the things you own wind up owning you?

Some do to a degree.
Only if you dislike being a slave to them.

It can turn out that way I think.

In general it doesn’t seem to matter if you’re rich or poor, most of us develop attactmentments to certain things. And whether it’s self-image or more material considerations, over time whatever we possess can become part of us.

For me, it is more of a symbiotic relationship. I definitely have to take care of my house – plumber was just in this morning – but in turn, my house nurtures and comforts me.

I don’t think I’ve ever had many things for status or show but I do enjoy being surrounded by my pottery and art.

I have been winnowing out things I don’t need anymore so that when I have to move to that big nursing home in the sky, there will be a little less to deal with.

In the case of cats, it’s true, but no, you should not get rid of them.

It is certainly true of my pond fish. I am their slave, god, pool boy, chef, protector, and matchmaker.

When I get rid of stuff, I feel freer, but it’s taking that first step that can be difficult.

@janbb Yes I do. I call the app “Plenty O’ Fish”.
The 3 oldest females get a little randy when the water temperature rises. The males get frisky and chase them around. Typical. Sometimes I have to separate them for a while.

I don’t know @LuckyGuy something smells fishy in that story.
