Recharging a device with less amperage - will this work?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33170points) August 8th, 2021

My daughter dropped off a device that is marked 9 volts 1 amp to operate – it has a rechargeable battery and is depelted right now.

In my junk box, I found a transformer adapter marked 9 volts 300 mA – and the prong on the end fits properly.

Am I correct in assuming that the device will recharge just fine, but it will simply take longer? Or am I risking fire or damage?

You are correct. It just will take longer.
Make sure the polarity is correct and the voltage is the correct form AC or DC.

If the device needs 1 amp continuously, the 300 mA transformer will not be able to keep up. If it is just to charge the battery, then no prob.
