Do you use the rearview mirror anti-glare toggle?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) April 7th, 2023 from iPhone

Due to rampant use of blinding headlights I’ve started using it.

Do you?

If some idiot is following me with their high beams on, yeah you bet.

My rear view mirror does it automatically. The car also dips the headlights when it thinks it needs to as well.

No. I hate to have my view dimmed. And I would not like to have my options overridden by some automatic funtion.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@Jeruba so at night you like to be blinded by other road users and left unable to see where you’re going. Isn’t that a little dangerous?

When I had one I absolutely used it. I lived in a very busy city growing up, and also as a young adult, with lots of traffic day at night.

Now, my car has the automatic anti-glare thing.

Always. I live in a high traffic area, driving at night is a chore for me anyway, so anything that helps is appreciated.

I use it. I even toggle it back and fourth a couple times in an effort to signal to the driver behind me that his high beams are on (that never works, HA).

My car does it automatically so I don’t have to touch it.

I used to call it my Kid Checker.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Both cars do it automatically

Dig_Dug's avatar

It’s an automatic thing.

When I had mirrors with that option I used it. I also took the time to carefully aim it so it worked correctly.
Now my cars do it automatically.

I am driving much less now since Covid. Certainly not as much as in the past as I do not commute daily any longer.

Whenever I drive at night.

Yes. It really comes in handy.

Oh yes, backroads are treacherous at night and pitch black here. I had to stop in the middle of the road recently because I literally was blind for a minute. Scary.

Yes!

The newer cars I’ve driven, however, have had “high-tech features” which are supposed to accomplish the same thing BUT DO NOT (and which mean the designers omit the old tilt feature which does work), which greatly annoys me, especially with all the blindingly bright LED headlights that have become popular.

Argh!
