Jefferson faces right on the new nickels. Is there a significance to the direction they face?

I don't know the significance I wondered if there was any reason for this. I had not noticed the new Jefferson. Usually things have meanings like statues of men who are riding a horse the number of feet the horse has touching the ground is significant. I figured his head facing the other way meant something.

According to Snopes, the hooves claim is false.

As for your original question, maybe Republicans face towards the right and Democrats (FDR on the dime and TJ on the old nickel) face left?
