How can i change speeds for routers?

Asked by gilgamesh (227points) November 25th, 2008

I’m using a linksys’s router and my son and I are sharing bandwith between a laptop and a desktop in our house. I dont use the latop too often, but my son uses the desktop and online gaming. I’ve noticed that I seem to “hog” the bandwith when i’m online. Is there possibly a way in which my laptop gets less bandwith and his desktop gets more? like priority?

google tomato firmware and see of your model of linksys router is supported by them. Then, you can install the tomato firmware and specify which address (his desktop) gets more bandwidth
