MacBook Help?

Asked by jessicajane (143points) November 25th, 2008

Is there a way to prevent my mac from sleeping when i close the cover. I know on some pcs when the top is closed, applications and programs like aim can still run. My mac automatically sleeps whenever I lower the lid – can I change this?

I tried finding an answer to this for a couple days awhile ago. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to accomplish this… I ended up setting a hot key to “sleep display” when I move to the top right corner… the display sleeps but everything else stays running (and the obnoxious sleep light on the front doesn’t turn on)

It’s not what you wanted but it might be the best you can do.

If you hook up an external keyboard or mouse, once you close the lid, hitting any key or clicking the mouse will wake the MacBook. If you have an external display or projector, the screen will awaken as well.
