Any idea for a secret Santa surprise?

Asked by seVen (3486points) December 20th, 2008 from iPhone

Ok guys I know this girl that’s my parents friends daughter, I been wanting to get to let her know I dig her and would love to go out with her . My point is I want to make it special like sending a present to her house but don’t really know what, can you help?
By the way she’s a polak and I’m as well but we are more American I guess since we live in the states much longer than the native land.

Isn’t Polak racist? Aren’t you a Pole?

Send her a bible, seems like a great introduction to who you are.

seVen's avatar

Polak is when someone of English speaking nations tries to lower someone of Polish origin yea, but we polaks when we call ourselves amongst ourselves like that it’s straight :)

asmonet's avatar

Sounds like another ethnic slur I’ve heard rationalized before.

So anyways, any ideas of what I can to to get this girl for a present?

seVen's avatar

Make her some perogi. Those little things just drip love, warmth and happiness.

One of those candy bouquets or fruit bouquets would be cool. Maybe a charm bracelet or a cute necklace?

I don’t see where ethnicity has anything to do with the question, but I think any girl would like any of those gifts.

whoa hold on a second, since when was polack a racist term? I seriously thought it was what they were called. Pole just sounds like something I put a flag on or pay people to dance around.

judochop's avatar

My Great Grandparents were Polaks. They used that term for everything. They even called each other Polaks.

asmonet's avatar

@judo: Considering your great grandparents probably grew up when it was still acceptable, makes sense.

LKidKyle1985's avatar

ha yeah I read the wiki page, I am just stunned. I grew up in Toledo and there’s a lot of polish people there and I just heard it all the time and never thought anything of it, nor did anyone make a big deal of it.
