How would Al Gore explain the weather these days?

Asked by Magnus (2884points) December 22nd, 2008

So much for global warming huh? It’s snowing in Las Vegas, North Dakota has the most snow in 30 years!

…. you’re not really that dumb, right? You know that the daily weather isn’t the same thing as the global climate?

You’ve struck a pet peeve of mine, and that pet peeve is the “Hey, look at all the snow! Global warming must be bullshit, amirite”? one. Now, I’m not going to argue about whether global warming is real or not. I’m not going to argue about whether humanity is having a massive impact on ecosystem of if this warming is a naturally occurring thing. But I absolutely cannot stand when people fling their index finger in the direction of chilly weather and act like it proves their point. Melting polar ice caps could very well lead to another ice age. Think about it.

I think the real answer here is that what Al Gore talks about is global CLIMATE CHANGE. Global warming is kind of a misnomer. His work talks about how there will be erratic weather patterns all over the spectrum—more floods in some places, more droughts in other, greater frequency and strength of hurricanes, higher high temps, and lower low temps. The weather over the past several years has been setting many records. Do yourself a favor and do some research.

just because it’s called global warming doesn’t mean we’re going to be walking around in bikinis and swim trunks all year long. you should do some research on global warming, so you can fully understand it :)

There’s a very interesting article written about Gore in a Swedish magazine, if you are interested. Not so much about his climate work, but about other things concerning the person Gore. I put it through Google Translate here:

I don’t need google translate… I’m Norwegian so Swedish is no problem.

The existence of winter is not to be taken as proof that climate change is a scam. Winter is, however, proof that the Earth is still tilted at a happy ~23.5 degrees, moving around the sun.

Haha, I was apparently too flustered to realize that I made a couple of typos.

“Now, I’m not going to argue about whether global warming is real or not. I’m not going to argue about whether humanity is having a massive impact on the ecosystem or if this warming is a naturally occurring thing.”

Alrighty, fixed. Now my anal retentiveness can rest.

My question is that we are always hearing about how the ice caps in the north pole are melting, but what about the south pole ice caps? That’s right, they are growing.
