My stomach and boobs hurt every night. . . sometimes in the morning. Does anyone know why this is?

Asked by sammibabi6 (150points) March 19th, 2009

I’ve had pain in my stomach on my lower left side from my back side to stomach. I don’t have health insurance, but when I did 5 years ago, the doctor wasn’t sure and thought maybe I had an assist on my ovaries. She wanted me to get a pelvic ultrasound, but I didn’t have the money. . . The pain in my side comes and goes, but lately its been hurting more especially at night and sometime on my right side where my ribs are too, and my boobs have been hurting as well. Especially when I lay on my side. I’m due for my period in a week. Do you think its flaring up because my period will be coming soon ?

I think you mean a cyst.

If it involves your reproductive system, then it is quite possible that your menstrual cycle would affect it.

Can you go to a free clinic?

@Marina I’m actually going to try looking some up online to see if there are any close to me. Thank you for taking the time out to answer my question !

I get ovarian cysts all the time. They are quite painful and can hurt me all over. My doctors always think I have appendicitis, because the pain is so severe and high.
It could be that. They don’t do anything for them, unless they are large in size. They usually put you on birth control pills, to control the cysts. Are you on birth control? If so, you wouldn’t have cysts at all.
If the pain is unbearable, I’d go to the ER.

@casheroo I actually am not on birth control right now. . . I still had the pain just as much with birth control. I’ve been on three different kinds. The last kind I was on was low estrogen something like that. I actually really liked that one, but I only had samples for 3 months. I don’t have health insurance so i’ve been dealing with this pain for probably 4 or 5 years now. . . I have a high tolerance to pain. So this pain that is hurting me is probably a bad thing, but I can’t go to the doctors because its too much money. . . I have thought of a free clinic, but I don’t know anything about them besides women who are having a baby go there. . . But I am looking into them now.

There are more family planning clinics out there then you may know. Most hospitals have them. Planned Parenthood goes on a scaling system, you tell them your income and they adjust what you pay for the services.
I get free birth control from a family planning clinic at a local hospital, and planned parenthood will gladly hand out birth control, or give it at low cost.
You actually want a most estrogen based birth control, progesteron is what causes the cysts (this is my personal gyno told me, maybe it’s different for others, because my friend gets cysts and went on Depo which is progesteron based)
Ortho Tri Cyclen always helped me, within a month of taking it.

You need to get yourself to a doctor. I know you don’t have insurance, but there are laws whereby you cannot be refused treatment because of inability to pay. Ovarian cysts are quite common and are usually easily treated. But there are other things that could be going on too. Clearly you are worried about it so go and get things looked at and get your worries behind you.

As has been noted above there are many options to you. Free clinics, city health department, county hospitals, etc. These exist to help you, use them.

My wife has the same issue as you describe, too. She is 33 and went off the pill about 7 months ago hoping to work herself back to a normal cycle. It didn’t work so good and she’s got a complex cyst on one ovary. She is back on a strong estrogen based pill now to hopefully get her back to normal hormone levels and allow the cyst to shrink and take care of itself.

There is a condition called endometriosis. It causes cysts and lesions that aren’t typically harmful other than being painful. However it is important to check it out when you get the chance to make sure you don’t have a cyst big enough to affect your fertility or something like that. It causes really painful periods and also pain at other times. But the pain isn’t in the breasts, that is probably just due to your period starting soon. One way to help this pain is to take fish oil supplements on a regular basis. Without going to the doctor there is really no way to know, of course. There are lots of types of cysts that can cause pain and when you get the chance it is good to know what kind you have (if you have one).
